My earlier thread about amp popping sounds got me thinking about the winter time environment where my band practices. 2nd floor of my drummer's garage, no heat, so.........We run 4 or 5 electric space heaters on the really cold nights....(I have a DRRI by the way)
Never really dawned on me how bad this could be on my amp....My amp popping I think was caused when heaters would cycle on and would thus deprive my amp of full power and cause some arcing, which made the popping sound
I realized that last year when one of my power tubes died on me at practice it was mid January and we probably had the heaters cranked...dunno if that was the cause or just helped it die (It was one of the infamous DRRI EH stock power tubes by the way...TS reissues in there now...are the heaters puttin' a strain on 'em???!!!!)
Anyone have any thoughts on running amps in an environment with lotsa space heaters....ie: DON'T do it, or if you have to do it, be sure and.................etc.
thanks!!
