I've been seeing these pop up on people's boards and the functionality looks killer. Wonder what the score is on sound quality and if anyone has tried it or has any issues using it before a fuzz?

Inquiring minds what ta know...

Another question -

How bad is the clipping? On the videos I've watched it seems to clip a lot.

Great pedal. Wide range of sounds with a very usable step filter. Can do a good wah-wah impersonation if set right.

It got along well with my PPF, 200 lbs. Not quite as reactive with my Fuzzulator.

The pedal does clip. I found that a mild od/distortion, or my Ultimate Octave fuzz before it, sort of leveled it out and kept it from clipping so easily. Care must be used when setting it to play clean. The controls have a ton of range.

Compared to a couple of the original Oberheim filter/sample/envelope pedals I used to own, this pedal is actually easier to control, as well as power. Smaller footprint. Overall, just more funtional and useful.

I use it with TV Jones pups in a Hamer Monacco.

I use mine before the dirt so I guess I'm not worried about clipping at all since I am not going to use it after dirt but that's just my personal preference.

Tons of great sounds out of the box, I bought it more out of interest, never really used filters of such and it immediately ended up on my board. It's very easy to get great stuff out of it and even live it's quick to change it around in between songs to have completely different sounds ... once you figure out where to set controls to your liking.

It's top notch built (like all other Subdecay stuff) and quiet, runs on regular 9V which is a big plus.

I love it on clean and dirty sounds, my 3 favorite sounds would be:
- slow wah-like sweep
- out of control deep throbbing
- waka-chaka auto filter

I'm curious too. How does it compare to the Emma?

I had the Emma. This is a better fit for me.

i kinda like the clipping on some settings... maybe thats just me.... overall is a great pedal, very flexible, but i feel like i can find a new setting on it every day.... i'm really ok with that (compared to a one hit wonder pedal...)

I find it works really well with a Muff type fuzz before it or any other fuzz or OD after it. Why? Beats me.

Here's a clip I made in an attempt to demonstrate.

Nice clip! Pretty much sums it up. I find mine fairly easy to use with maybe one hour to get used to it, and the tones are fantastic.

Like they said, it's got tons of sounds in it. But because of this it will clip- the controls have a ton of range (especially with the "reverse" envelope setting). But I think when you get it to the settings you're looking for they'll generally be in the non-clipping range.

My experience has been that you can put a fuzz before it, but it's basically only going to be usable in step mode (because the fuzz is going to compress the signal thus not making for much of an envelope). But most of the settings are very usable with a fuzz after.

Myself, I do get confused with the controls, but I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet- just trying to dial it in quickly at practice really. On the envelope settings the depth knob is very sensitive, which can be a little frustrating. My only other issue would be for the step setting I'd like a tap tempo, but I understand the reasons not to have one.

If it clips even in the slighest it's off of my "give it a try" list ...
Same as wahs which do the same ...

It can clip, but the controls are touchy and I can generally find settings where it won't. The thing about it is it responds very differently to different input signals. Don't expect to get useful sound with one setting with a clean and a dirty input in front of it. It seems to be most responsive to high end, and a dirty guitar in front of it will send it out of control compared to a clean signal. As mentioned some high gain fuzzes after it will make the envelope almost pointless, but that's not it's fault.

Overall I like it, it's a musical tool, designed by people with an ear for what works. I've played filters that were obviously designed by a technician with no clue about tone. It can do most things you would want a filter device to do, maybe not as well at every setting as some other boxes, but it's a very versatile pedal. The thing is the settings are often wildly different from one effect to another and sometimes touchy to set up live, and I want to be able to switch it to different points in the chain for different effects. So you need two of them!
