Quick questions;
How does it work?
How hard is it to install in an amp (PTP turret board construction. I have a slave out pot and jack I can sacrifice so no extra holes required so far as I know).

You'll need to add another tube though. You could do it with solid state, but I'm of the mind that I don't like to mix my topologies.

Depends on the tremolo circuit. Most common tube type trem works off the bias of the power tubes.
It's not just an issue of adding a tube. You need to know whether the power transformer can supply the voltage and current to an extra tube BEFORE you add an extra tube to run a trem. If your power transformer can't handle it, you either need to get a stronger one, or you will have to go solid state.

Area51 used to offer a very cool add on tremolo kit that was about the size of a footswitch box with a single 12ax7 mounted in the center offset with the speed and depth control knobs on the side. This unit mounted on the inside of the cab. Although it didn't fit every amp model.
I just checked his site to find out that its not offered on there anymore. Dan Albrecht is a nice guy and very helpful. Send him an email and ask if he still has them.

My all-in-one pedal has a tremolo mode. It works well enough that I wouldn't consider modding my main amplifier. I don't know what music you play, but there's nothing I normally play that calls for it. Its a pretty dated effect, in my opinion.

Except that it's used all the time and pedal and amp manufacturers still feel the need to produce it.

Great drippy trem is amazing. Nothing dated about it.
