I am resurrecting this Tele from the dead. Just made the neck pocket straight, still need to relocated the bridge and stuff. But I am unsure of what pickup to use...

I have really been GASing for a P90 guitar for a fatter sound with clarity. But I also like the Tele sound...

Probably going to stick with GFS pickups, and I know those can be hit or miss. So is there a good Tele bridge pickup they offer for the classic Tele tone but slightly hotter? Or should I stick a P90 in it?

Or if anyone has some pickups they want to unload cheap...

I was thinking either one of these pickups:

More money than the GFS, but the Fralin SP42 is a great pickup! Fat, but still has Tele character, more so than the HD Super 90 I previously owned.

That sounds like a great pickup, the kind of sound I would want. However, my Tele was $75 (when I had all the parts to it). And I would feel bad putting expensive parts on it. Gonna get a tortoise shell guard from guitar fetish, MAYBE a new bridge, a new control plate with just volume and tone probably. Oh and I am spraying it with rustoleum....

If you want to keep the cost low and go with a p-90 vibe how about this bridge

and something like this for a pickup

I've got a Van Zandt Tele bridge PU I'll sell for $50 shipped. It's a little beefier than a standard Tele bridge. Or tempt me with something to trade.

From what I hear, that bridge is a POS. I thought about that PU though. But I would just cut my current bridge in half and make a sheet metal mounting plate for the pickup. Or put a normal P90 in.

So I think I am going to go with a 50's repro pickup from GFS and I want to wire it like an Esquire but I hear using a 0.01 microfarad cap for the "bassy" position is an improvement?

This is going to be my "mild" guitar for more cleans but I would like to make it dirty... I hear the 0.01 sounds great with fuzz over it but I would think the standard esquire wiring would be better for dirty?
