Make a ranking of 10 common pedals that range from transparent to opaque...

What would they be?

I'm specifically curious as to where you guys would place these 4:

the ts9
Black Muff
Tim
MI Audio Blues Pro

I'm guessing the Muff would be 1-- completely opaque.
And I'm thinking Tim would be a 10-- as transparent as it gets...

And lets keep tube-based pedals like the English Muff'n out of this, could we?

Not sure fuzz pedals like the Muff are meant to be 'transparent'- OD and fuzz are not the same...

This is a nice exercise however you may get better results by naming 10 pedals then having us rank as there are 2 bajillion od and fuzz pedals and to say "pick common" is kind of hard as we all use different stuff.

Also, when you say transparent, can you define for us? It means something different to everyone here (i.e. doesn't change tone; cleans up well with volume knob, all the way to changes tone but lets each string ring out when a chord is strummed).

We need a TGP to English dictionary so we are all saying the same thing when we toss around jargon like that.

Hmmm. Didn't realize it could mean something else... I was thinking about "doesn't change tone"-- or "lets guitar shine thru"

My SunFace NKT is transparent with the volume rolled back. And then it's not. I'd say it's a 1-9. :-p

Yeah... there's a certain spot on my germanium Fuzz Face where I can step on the button a couple of times and I can't tell if it's on or not. I need to roll the volume up or down from that point to figure out if it's on or not.

So... Fuzz Face, both 1 and 10.

I think you'd have a lot more luck (as someone mentioned) just naming some pedals, or asking for a few (not 10) examples....

1 to 10 implies shades of "gray" and granularity that is just not useful when we have a hard time agreeing on sounds, etc.

But... (I'm including pedals I have used and others by rep only, like the Tim)

But the problem as I see it, many (actually MOST) of the pedals I own let you choose...they aren't inherently one or the other end of the spectrum.
Would be easier to pick out JUST transparent and JUST color (pedals that almost color everything with gain and/or guitar rolled down...) but after that every pedal I know and use it all totally depends on settings.

Sorry for how this looks...I hate that the forum format takes away spaces, converts tab to 1 space, ignores spaces...
