View Full Version : Bruno Reverb circuits - why so special?

Many guitar players seem to love the reverb in the Cowtipper amps, and the UG30. I was wondering if anyone had ever taken a peak inside those amps to see what the reverb circuit architecture was? Like, is it a tweaked (different R and C values) blackface reverb circuit, or, something more like a vibro-king (where the guitar signal hits the reverb circuit first thing) ??

How does that work exactly? :rotflmao

quick bump as I'd like to know as well. Bruno was asked to help on the Korg AC30HW specifically, the reverb, according to what read/heard.

I say this with tongue in cheeck, but could it be that the reason is....non-existent? He's just a really good amp designer on par with the top 2% of really good designers and is not carrying a bag of magical reverb dust in his pocket?

I agree...Definately not magic dust..but, different circuits have different sounds and I am very curious about what reverb circuit he is using!

Although now sold...I can attest that my Bruno U30 had a good reverb for sure.
Bruno Uundergorund 30. Best reverb in i,ve had the pleasure to use. Simply sublime.

The UG30 REVERB circuit is righteous......all the way to Dick Dale ville. It's the best I've heard and the only one I know that tops the awesome Vibro-King. If I had to guess I would suspect it is a similar layout to the VK.

do the cowtippers have the same reverb circuit as the UG 30's ?

You guys must be 'reverb challenged'.
Calling the Vibro-King reverb good is like saying white is black.
Worst reverb I've ever heard even after the 'fixes'.
Getting great reverb is easy.Fender almost had it.A very little bit of gain shaping and dwell changes and it's there.
I suspect Bruno took a little extra time with his reverb.

That is what I was wondering about! Do ya think he uses less drive to the reverb driver?

Can't say as I've not heard a Bruno reverb yet.But there are lots of ways to make the Fender reverb sound better. There are a driver tube and a recovery tube.Nothing is written in stone saying you have to use a 12AT7 as the driver and a 12AX7 as the recovery tube.Experiment here.
And the long delay tank can be replaced with a medium delay. The dwell fixed resistor can be changed to a 470k or whatever floats your boat. You can shape the 'tone' of the reverb with capacitors. There are lots of things that can be done.Try some.
Vibro-Kings DON'T have good reverb.YUUCCCCK!

To my REVERB challenged ears, both the Vibro-King and the UG30 sound every bit like a Fender Tube Reverb unit in front of the amp. For me, the stand alone Fender Tube Reverb unit is THE standard.

I don't agree.I think an original circuit 6G16 Vibro-Verb is the standard for great reverb. It is not as Surf city as standard Fender's are and is incredibly musical. The stand-alone is too much too soon for me.
I guess that's what makes the world go round;differences of opinions.

psychonoodler: If the '63 Vibroverb has a nice reverb sound, when then do you suppose Fender changed to the more ubitquitos AB763 type of reverb circuit? I wonder why they went to the circuit most of us Fender players use now? How would you compare the 63 Vibroverb reverb sound to the Black face/silverface rever bsound??
Thanks!

It just has LESS reverb vs an AB763.What do modern Fender guys complain about most?Too much reverb!
Add that to the unique Vibro-verb sound and it's delicious.
The new hand-wired Fender Vibro-verb is an AB763 circuit inside a super reverb cabinet with a cheasey 15 " Eminence speaker. When will they learn?
Duh to Fender on that one!
