I need some pigmented nitro in Fender colors in pints or quarts.....not aerosols.......anyone have a source? The clear is readily available, but I'm having a tough time finding colors.
TIA

as a FYI, Bill does NOT sell nitro in pints or quarts....only aerosols. He said DOT doesn't allow shipment of the non aerosols.
so.......anyone know of any sources?

What? Weird. I could've sworn I'd seen where he sold those. Sorry for the misdirect.
As for other sources, you could always call up Sherwin Williams and ask them. If they can't make it for you (I've heard that some do mix/carry nitro) maybe they could give you a lead.
Or better yet, join the ReRanch forum and ask. I bet someone there would know.

Finding those colors in nitrocellulose might be difficult. All those Fender colors were automotive colors and the paint codes still exist (PPG and/or DuPont) just not in nitro. The good news is that the current formulation will work with nitro. clear coats, just reduce it with lacquer thinner instead of the manufacturer recomended reducer. The color coats should go on so thin than any percieved advantage of going all nitro is not really an issue.
I have all the paint codes in a notebook somewhere but I'm sure someone on the Reranch board has the link bookmarked. I'll see if I can't dig it up.

For the record, in the 60s Fender usually did acrylic lacquer color coats with nitro clear coats for the custom colors, if that matters.

Go to a DuPont automotive paint dealer. You can find the codes on Curtis Novaks site. They all cross reference to chromabase colors. Thin a bit with a good high quality laq thinner as the base maker is too expensive. Do not thin 50/50, try about 70 paint/30thinner. I have a Dupont Mixing station and have been using this for 15 years. McFaddens may be a source but if you want a thin finish, go DuPont and then clear with nitro. If you use a pigmented nitro, the finish will get thicker and leveling is a pain. The DuPont is about $65 a pint but should net almost 3 bodies if sprayed carefully.
