I am getting ready to order a Mojo 1x12 cab to use with my powerscaled amps when I am running them scaled down. It will be an open back Marsahll 18 watt style extension cab.

I can't make up my mind between a Celestion G12-65 or a G12M speaker. Most of the time the G12M should be suffficient power handling wise but it would be nice to have the higher power rated G12-65 if/when I need a little more power handling capability. I do have another 2x12 for when I use the amps full power.

Does anyone have advice on how these two speakers will compare in a low power situation? Will the G12M perform a lot better when running 5 watts or less? I am thinking that it would sound better for low power use since the G12-65 will would not be driven anywhere near its peak at 5 watts or less?

I had a G12M in a Bogner Metropolis. Sounded great but couldn't handle higher volumes with out breaking up the speaker. I put in an Emi Private Jack and got the extra headroom without losing the GB tone

If your amp is high gain, 65 for sure. Low to mid gain, stick with the greenback.

Thanks for the replies.

Should I be concerned about how the two speakers will respond to lower volume/lower powered use? Ie. will the lower rated G12M sound and respond better when used with a low power amp?

For most of my intended use of the 1x12 cab 20 watts should be sufficient.

Just got some great advice from Jim at Scumback speakers over the phone. Now I think I may try one of his 65 watt speakers. Not sure which model yet.....
