Here on the board, I hear the term "roots rock", but I don't have a clue what falls under that category, or if it would even be music I'd dig. But I'd like to find out. You guys want to point out some bands for me to listen to? Thanks

Wikipedia list everything from the Allmans to ZZ Top...it the middle is Dylan, Wilco, CCR...I refer to my band NiteRail as roots rock.

BTW, Wiki defines roots rock as being Americana. It is a combination of rock, country, blues...early "American" music. Nothing you hear on current radio is roots rock.

I'm gettin' it. The Band, Ely, Blasters - didn't realize so many bands I enjoy fell under that umbrella.

Haven't seen NRBQ in years, but I was a huge fan back in the 70's-80's. While the band still kicked, just not the same without big Al.

I'll check into some of those other bands too - thanks.

The guitarist from the Woggles posts here?!? We did a show with them a few years back. Great live band, really friendly bunch too. Couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of guys (and lady).

Seth Walker might fall under that category. Nice collection of rootsy/bluesy music. And, today only, his latest album is only $.99 on Amazon!

The Wallflowers fit into this bucket too. 'Roots rock' is often story-driven, rhythmically not too complex, not trippy or jammy. Jayhawks, some Wilco, Ryan Adams stuff for sure.

Wow. I thought I was one of the only Jono Manson fans on the planet!

Not. There are many. Nice to meet another.

-Basically, any stuff that is too rockin' to be straight up blues or country, but has elements of both. Also, can't be TOO glossed up/commercially successful like Brooks & Dunn, for example.
