I'm considering installing (2) 6V6 tubes in my Blockhead JTM 50 copy. It uses a gz34 recto. Is this gonna work?

300V on the plates of EL34s currently.
my guess is yes, provided you can bias it in range. maybe check with builder first.

If you go with JJ 6V6's, it is an absolute certainty, in terms of the plate voltage. They handle 450+ in my stuff with nary a whimper. That even gives you some latitude in terms of alternate rectifiers tubes.

man thats some low plate volts?
thats the range of my 63 tremolux with a gz34,actually mine is about 325 range.
i'm curious, what are you trying to achieve with 6v6 tubes?

same volume with the power tubes working a bit more into the picture. I like how ragged a 6V6 sounds when working a bit.

what effect would different rectos have on the tone in your experience?

You should be fine -- be sure to check the bias, though... And it is a good idea to check with the builder, because there is a slight pin out variance that CAN cause problems in amps not wired for tube swapping (usually safe when going from EL34 -> 6x6, but not always the other way around)
Generally, the higher the plate voltage, the more clean headroom... which I think is the opposite of what you trying to achieve.
I'm not a Marshall expert - but I believe many of them run low plate voltage. A 5U4 recto would lower the voltage even more

Not so much a tonal change with recto changes, but diff. rectifier tubes will give you diff. B+ voltages via voltage drop. B+ voltage effects "feel" as much as tone, in my opinion, and may give you more or less clean headroom.

Thanks for the tips! This amp has a low voltage tranny that puts around out 300V with EL34 and the GZ34 in place.
