I've heard both yes and no, would somebody please clear this up.

I've got some outdoor stuff to do, without benefit of a front of house mix. I want to use the main and monitor pre-amp outs of a 12 channel Carvin powered head into more powerful Crown 2402 power amps and not use the weaker and less loud built-in power amps. The Crowns are gonna push some big cabs (1x18s bass bins, and 2x15 with 2x6 and horns).

A Carvin rep said there would be no damage to the built-in power amps since they are a transistor designed power amp. He probably knows but I want to be 99.9% assured. Can someone elaborate? Thanks!!!

Everything I've ever heard and in my experience using solid state amps says no load is needed & will be safe.

I have used mine many times that way without issue.

Yes you can. I'm 100% sure. I do it all the time.

Yup, transformerless (99.99% are) solid state amps do not need a load because the don't normally have an output transformer. No output transformer, no destructive flyback voltage. With a solid state amp, the concern is too low of an impedance load, not too high.
