how about a smart guitar ?
I find them gimmicky, and I wouldn't own one, but they do look cool.

I'm more of a traditional type, but they are very cool. My hat's off to you for your creativity and the ability to execute a concept extremely well!

How exactly does this thing work?
Edit: Nevermind I just looked one up online. It looks way more confusing than it actually is

Very nice ....
Who would'a thunk that the man who builds some of the most beautiful guitars on the planet goes for car-themed guitars
I'm gonna keep my eyes open for some of this stuff and see what kind of trades I can work on one of Ron's guitars

No, not mine. They made 25 for a promotional deal. They made the 11th one special. The tachometer goes up to 11 instead of 8 and the billiard ball on the gearshift has the number 11 on it instead of 8. You have to have seen the Spinal Tap movie to appreciate the 11 humor. I lay awake at night wondering where #11 is, sometimes. :bow:bow:bow
https://www.activemusician.com/images/news/4610-0s.jpg
In this picture, number 11 is on top. See how the shift knob is a different color? I know it's hard to see, but this is the only photo of #11 I could find. That is the color of a #11 billiard ball. The other two are black like an 8 ball.

I wonder why Fender would make Mustang guitars based on the Strat instead of, you know, the Mustang:huh

Good question. That same year Fender did 25 Jaguar Strats...not Jaguars

14K Gold leaping cat inlays, burled walnut pickguard and fretboards - sweet.
Thanks for the info on the Mr. HPs Stringz. I saw one in their NAMM booth years ago, never knew how many were made.
RS - nice ride! I was hoping I wasn't the only matching car/guitar guy here. I've sent your image to my girlfriend with a big "See!!!" note.
Bluedawg - Thank you, but even 5A quilt and koa can get boring sometimes :rotflmao

Ha!
I machined the humbucker covers from reflector material. The picture was simply taken with the flash 'on'. No matter what angle you take the picture from, it's the same effect.

Great collection Ron!
Ron seems not to brag....but I believe Ron did most of the inlays in those guitars for Fender (Sorry Ron, my bad)
I wanted to added one of my guitars that Ron seemed to like in this mode.

Even though I don't see it as the REAL Eleanor(it can't be, its not in the REAL Gone in 60 Seconds lol), I'm still thinking about painting a pickguard inspired by the Eleanor in the Gone in 60 Seconds remake for my Fender Mustang. This is a mockup done in Paint using a Jagstang outline from Warmoth's site. I've also thought about painting one the same green as the 'Stang in Bullitt.

Ron, I just noticed your Reggie Bannister quote!!! That's one of my favorite parts of one of my favorite flicks!! Phantasm Phorever!!! How about a guitar based on the Phantasm Cuda?

Anyway, back in 2010 Fender had a Cars & Guitars exhibit at Tempe Town Center. A few highlights (sorry about the crappy photography):

The very first EC Strats were made in "Torino Red" which is a Ferrari color. It is the same color used on his $4.75mil SP 12 EPC Eric Clapton Ferrari -- as well as numerous other Italian sportscars from Clapton's fleet.
Subsequent EC Strats in "Mercedes Blue" and "Midnight Blue" have been made to match Clapton's Mercedes cars as well.
