when i check the 8" jensen speaker in the amp, my meter bounces between .1, .2, .3 which seems unusually low to me.
the meter works fine when I check other speakers. other speakers will read 6.5 or 7.2.

Are you checking the speaker while it is disconnected from the amp? If the speaker is disconnected and you are getting those readings, then the speaker is blown.
Those Jensens are usually either 4 or 8 ohms. I'm 99 percent positive that is a 4 ohm speaker in those amps.

...doesn't the wording "550-10" indicate the OT turns-ratio, ie: 550 primary wraps to 10 secondary wraps?
...that'd make the OT xfmr a 55:1 turns ratio, and assuming 12K to the 6V6, that'd make the speaker about 4 ohms.

The first time I tried reading it with a meter the speaker was connected to the amp. But this morning I removed the original speaker wire so I can hook up an attenuator and try other speakers. when I tried to take a measurement again, the speaker had speaker wire soldered with a 1/4" plug on the end but it wasn't attached to the amp. I tried a meter reading from the 1/4" jack and from the speaker terminal tab things. I tried both red and black meter wires on each tab.
The meter works because I get good readings from other speakers. The speaker works and sounds really good. I'm baffled by the meter reading.

I figured it out. the jack I soldered to the speaker wire was goofed up somehow. I removed the jack and wire from the speaker. Took a reading from the speaker and it's a 4 ohm speaker. then I cut fresh ends on the wire and soldered it back together again and now the jack works fine.
