If it had the vintage Kluson type then yes you can go with the Gotoh Kluson style tuners.

If it had the vintage Kluson type then yes you can go with the Gotoh Kluson style tuners.

If I'm not mistaken, it has Pings. They're much cheaper for Squier to get.

Look for a slight protrusion on the "blank" (non-button) end of the nickel tuning shaft. If it is there, it is Ping. If flush, then it is Gotoh. Double check by taking a string off and then the tuning machine. A Gotoh says "Japan" and a Ping says " P.W.".

If you retrofit the CV from Pings to Gotohs, you will need 10mm conversion bushings as well as the Gotohs themselves, plus a reamer. The bore for the Ping is smaller than 10mm (conversion bushing size) but larger than the bore for a Gotoh bush.

Interesting - do you have a rule to measure the diameter of the tuner hole? If Boris is correct then you will have to ream the hole to 10mm and use conversion bushings. He can't check the tuner as he has none yet.

Hey look - here's one that has the Kluson upgrade. Write to this guy and ask him -
