As subject:

Does it sound better? Let say mahogany and neck coming from the same trees or same blank. Mahogany to be exact..

Not necessarily. I actually prefer to match a lightweight to medium weight body blank with a denser, stiffer neck blank for the best tone transfer.

All pieces of wood are different, though - even from the same tree or board. YMMV.

I get most of my wood from a local mill, which means it's usually from the same tree. I still have to check each piece. I don't think anyone knows exactly why, but not all of the wood will work tonally.

I've found black walnut to be very consistent. Although, I might just be getting lucky.

I made mention of this sensibility in a discussion of construction techniques in regard to Vintage and Historic Gibson Les Pauls. This was discussed ad nauseum between Dave Carpenter and Edwin Wilson, at the Gibson Historic and Art Shop in Nashville. It's an excellent sensibility-it's proved out in my R7 Stinger/60 neck.Cool.
