Last night at the electric factory Beck's tone was beyond words, it was best live tone and EF has shit sound. I saw 4 ri heads and 2 cabs that were TV, in size but seemed to have CB grill( could be off on that) The Heads he was using were SL ri with a Small boxs on top,45 or 87 no idea but the were off. Anyone know what he was using? how he got such a fat smooth tone with bite.

Yeah, he had a great tone last night. Way better than what I expected given his recent live recordings. I know it will definitely always be better in person than on a recording, but last night's tone was great. Like you said, fat and warm, but cutting. Tons of good midrange too. Huge overall. Even when the tech played it a bit setting up before the show, it sounded strong. Sounded to me like there was some fuzz involved.

When I saw him on Monday, I'm pretty sure he' was using 2 JTM45 ri's with 1960AX cabs. He did get unbelievable tone didn't he?! Was he also using the voxish looking amp as well, next to the marshalls?

Beck has been a strong supporter and loyal user of Savage amps. I have no doubt that the wonderful noise you heard was one created by a Savage amp.

Jeff always has great tone, listen to any of the stuff on youtube, He's always played through Marshall amps, I think alot of the gain he gets comes from the Fender dual-coil ceramic Noiseless pickups in his Strat.

The recent clip on Youtube said he was using a Klon to push his older Marshalls.

Would not say it was gain but a fat round warm tone in his single note work, clean yet not, amazing definition

Read an interview a few years back, and Jeff said he rolls his guitars' tone control all the way off, because his Marshalls have plenty of treble.

yah, flip it to the bridge pup and roll the tone down to about 2 and you'll be in that beck territory. it's a fun sound to use.

bridge pups don't have a tone pot....is this a beck strat mod? did with a bright 1987 in the 273 pup setting with the tone on 2....not what I heard at the show but pretty ballsy strat tone

It's a pretty common mod to switch the tone for the middle pickup to the bridge pickup. All it takes is moving the wire from the pot to the switch down one position on the switch. I do it on all my strats. Not sure, but I'd assume it's standard on the Beck model.

How do you like not having a middle tone control? My Vinetto is wired with middle and neck on one pot and the treble on the other. The problem I find which has been documented on TGP is that when two pickups share one control there is a loading which happens which in turn mucks things up.I have thought about either removing the middle or neck tone option but I am not sure what one would be the best to leave un-tweakable.
