Are they nice? Do they play well and are they made of high quality stuff?

I am interested in a 6122 but I have been anywhere that I could actually play one so if I could get some impressions from those of you who have them that would be awesome!

Thanks,
Pat

I owned a 2005 Duo Jet for a couple of years. GREAT GUITAR. High quality build, great tone, and great feel.

The touring grade (Japanese made) stuff is awesome. I also owned a 6120 Jr. Great guitar also.

I let both of them go in a moment of weakness. I want them back now....

Make sure you try as many as you can before you buy. I went several of each before I found the right one.

I have an '06 6120TM. I love that guitar! I'll never sell it. I had a very high quality setup done on it and it's one of my favorite guitars. As a matter of fact, I'm trying to buy a Gretsch Spectrasonic as well. Great stuff!

I have a Brian Setzer Model and the quality is fantastic. This is the first guitar I've ever owned in thirty years that I've never even thought about modifying. It has the TV Jones Filtertrons and they sound great.

recent Gretsches (esp. post Fender buyout) are excellent ... even my Gretsch guru, a fairly well known session & sideman who I'll keep nameless as he'd probably prefer, has turned to the new ones over the vintage stuff because they're so well done.

my own experience is with a 6128 Elliott Easton, an '04 6121W (Roundup w/ DynaSonics), 6120 Setzer SSLVO, and 5120, and they are all really fine guitars.

The current Gretsches are probably the best ever.

My brother has a Corvette from 2007 and it sounds and plays great but it doesn't stay in tune too well with the bigsby.

I've got 3 Jets - a 6128TCG from 2004, a 6121 Roundup from 2005, and 2008 6128TVP. All very high quality, great guitars. I also have a 6116 Power Tenny (one of the sweetest hollow bodies I've ever played) and a hot rodded 5120. Even the 5120's build quality is very good.

that's not an issue on any of my 4 Bigsby-fied Gretsches, are you sure he's stringing up and stretching/setting strings properly? If you do that they tend to stay in tune pretty well unless you break a string, then you're fubar'd about 1/4 tone low, LOL.

I agree on the 5120...I've a/b'd mine (with TVJones Classics) against a 6120 and a 6120jr and was very pleased.

I've got a few recent Gretsch guitars. They are all fantastic...no problems whatsoever...just killer tone & playability & my bigsbys never go out of tune.

I have a 2004 Jet Firebird 6131.
The new Gretschs are probably the best value for money high end guitars now available ;)

That is quite the collection! I have 2/5ths of that now. I already had a 6120 and I just bought a Spectrasonic from another TGPer about an hour ago. How do you like your Spectrasonic?

Just got a new 6128TCG Jet for christmas. Best guitar I ever played. Really fun and covers a wide range of tone. I recently got a Janglebox JB2 and that and the Jet are an awesome pair. Never really played any of the other models so I can only speak about the Jet.

Are all the newer Gretsches Japanese made? Any recent American made ones?

As far as I know, all the high-end ones have been made in Japan for a good 15 years or so now.

I'm certainly happy with mine - 2006 Jet Firebird:

I've had '60s Gretsches and '90s Gretsches and '00s Gretsches. The '00s Gretsches are the best built by a fair margin. I have two '04 (Fender era) Setzers, one an SSU and the other an SSLVO. Both are fantastic guitars. The SSLVO I got only recently and it is the best Gretsch I have ever had. It looks amazing, sounds perfect and is impeccably built. I play it every day and it sounds beautiful through any amp I play it through. It twangs, it snarls, it rings and it roars.

And the best bit, the very best bit is that my wife loves 'em too. She never asks how much they cost! I took up playing rockabilly just to get my first and now I'm hooked.

I think he does. I don't know why it goes out. It probably isn't the Bigsby so I don't know why I said that haha
