Looking for suggestions that fit the list below....

- $1200.00 or less (maybe more if I keep saving for lack of find anything).
- Fatter neck (I play an ash tele with I believe a U-shaped neck.. LOVE it).
- A humbucker (in the bridge at least) with a more vintage rating for playing everything from Clapton Bluesbreakers era to Ryan Adams & The Cardinals type tones. Blues/classic rock I suppose one would call it.
- Prefer darker colors/more plain (feel/sound are much more important to me). Prefer a classic look.
- Prefer frets on the bigger side but it all depends on how the neck feels.
- I need to branch out but if it has the feel of a fender, I'll be more likely to instantly dig it.
- Can get it with a decent hardshell case.
- Something I can ACTUALLY get my hands on and try out before I buy it.
- Please don't suggest a PRS.

Thanks for anything constructive.

Well if you were willing to shell out a couple of hundred more, you could get a brand new FSR AVRI52 thin skin tele from Dave's guitars. SD HB in the neck, nocaster bridge single, modern wiring, Butterscotch nitro finish, maple neck 9.5radius, 6105 frets. About $1650 i think. Or you could look used for a better deal. These are some seriously fine instruments for sure.

BTW, you can try a Hot Rod 52 at GC to try. They are pretty much the same necks but use the smaller hb in the neck slot. They are Seymour Duncans too.

How about a Gibson Les Paul Studio.

I actually just ran into one of those that felt/sounded great right after I posted this thread.

It's 799.00$ firm with case. Only thing is the case has a bunch of tape and coloring all over it...

Your thoughts?

I've never been into the studios, I think if i were to get an LP I would hold off and get one worth having. Have you played the SG classic. No humbucker but if you have the right amp it can get pretty solid. P90's, perfect for that classic sound and look.

+1 off the beaten path, but still familiar. Some of the finest guitars made.

$799 is a good price for a Studio nowadays. New ones are over $1,000. You can always get another case later for probably around $100.

Something like this but darker finish. You can't get this exact guitar for $1200 but there are several somewhat similar guitars in that price range. Might want to check out a G&L Bluesboy as well, though I don't know about the neck options there.

Used Gibson SG Standard... use the leftover dough to install some Duncan 59s or Antiquities, along with CTS 500K pots and good .022uF caps.

Will take a bit of time to get used to playing it if you have only played Fenders, but it can be done! :)
