I'm not a guitar palyer.....I'm asking this question for my bass player.....

What are some good 15" speaker option for a 1x15 Mesa cab?

He has a 2x10 cab stacked on top of a 1x15 cab and pushes it with a Mesa Walkabout.......we play calssic rock, blues, and funk...

Thx,
Ken

Eminence Kappa is always a fine choice for a 15" replacement. That said I would recommend contacting Mesa for an OEM replacement in case he ever wants to sell the cab. Aftermarket speakers tend to kill the resale value on this kind of stuff.

Electrovoice EVM15s were standard in some Mesa cabinets.

Those cabs really sounded good too. A guy I used to play with brought a Mesa 1 x 15 cab with an EV to a gig and also a Mesa 2 x 10 cab. We a/b'd them and the 1 x 15 was better. Two of those cabs, a Fender blackface Bassman head and a Fender bass were like thunder!

This was before Neo Magnet speakers. I'd be checking those out and saving 15 or 20 pounds!

I was wondering myself but for guitar. I was considering a JBL 130 series D K or E. It should be ported for a JBL for the best sound. My bass player has been using D 130s for his bass and loves them (old Fender cab 2-15). You would have to do a search for porting for the JBLs. Last time I spoke wth JBL, they were no longer providing the port dimensions. Oh yeah, the JBLs weigh about 23 pounds each - more weight in an already heavy cab. I love the sound of twin D 130s for guitar, but trying to cut down on the size of cabs.
