I'm talking about the pups from the relic 60's strats and the CS 69's. How do these two pickups compare to each other. What are the key differences? Which one of these is better for JM tones? If the CS 60's are better for what I'm going for, I might sell my CS 69's and grab a set of the 60's.
Btw, Are the CS 60's similar to the big dippers? I don't think the CS 69's are and people claim that.

JM uses Fat 50's. I have a set of Klein pickups that get you there, in that fat 50 realm. Getting his tone is not easy unless you have the two rock and all the gadgets. Oh yeam, and the fingers!

Moved to proper forum.
69's don't sound like big dippers. I like them better actually. The 69's are almost 'instant Jimi' and sound great. Haven't heard the CS60s. I owned some Fat 50's as well that were pretty cool...but I think they sound better in RW board guitars than maple. Also more mids than big dippers.
Clean amp and an underwound strat gets you close. I really think you could get most of his tones out of a twin with a few pedals.

Actually he uses a ton of stuff Chris, but he does use the Big Dippers in a lot of the strats. They were designed for him. But I think the Monterey strat has the 60's...doesn't sound like the dippers.

We offer a couple of sets that have a scooped Midrange. One is slightly scooped as K-Line is refering to. The other is modeled after the John Mayer Big Dipper Set, very popular & dead on.
