Tell ma about Martin 000-1

Impressions? What's the right second had price in your opinion?

I own a '98 model 000-1 and, to my ears it's a remarkable guitar, especially considering it's price. I'm amazed at how good it sounds every time I play it. Plenty of bass, fat, clear mids and clear, ringing trebles. I've replaced the factory saddle (corian?) with a Colosi bone saddle which improved the sustain and clarity.

Price? I haven't seen that many for sale, but I'd guesstimate around $500 for an example in vg-ex condition.

I used to have one and regret selling it. It is a great guitar all around. You can find them used for aroung 600 or maybe a tad more. Mine went on consignment for about 800 but it was mint.

The 000-1 is a pretty nice guitar. Over on RMMGA, for a long time the typicaly recommendation for a <$1K guitar was the Martin 15 Series (all solid mahogany), but I've always contended that the 1 Series, with a solid spruce top, was more versatile choice. And the Martin 000 (Auditorium) size is hard to beat for general use.

The "downside" of the 000-1 is the laminated back and sides, but the most important factor (from a tonal perspective) is really that solid top.

Value will depend on condition, location, etc., but for a decent used example, I think $600-$700 would be about right.

Great bang-for-the-buck guitar.

Correct. The 000-1R (rosewood) DOES have a laminated back and sides, but the mahogany version (000-1) has a solid back.

Correct. I sold a bunch of these guitars over the years working for Australia's biggest Martin importer dealer. They're very good guitars for the money in my opinion.

One thing that's a bit unusual about these contemporary Martin 000's is that they're actually dreadnought/OM scale at 25.4" not the traditional Martin 000 scale length of 24.9" which also influences the tone. Not a bad thing by any means, just different.

Yeah, the 000-1 really doesn't match Martin's traditional 000 specs. They are more like an OM with a 1-11/16 neck

Another plus for the 000-1 (imho) is the Modified Low Oval neck. To these old hands, it's the most comfortable neck profile in the Martin line-up.

I have a '97 000-1 I bought new in March '98. Its the nicest looing one Ive ever seen with a superb straight-grain top (many other tops didnt look that great to me). I havent played it all that much so it still looks virtually new. I think its a great guitar at a very affordable price, and has been discontinued for several years.

I am trying to raise some cash toward getting some home remodeling done, so I might consider selling mine to someone who could give it a good home, that is, for a reasonable selling price, otherwise I prefer to just keep it.

Is the 000-1 Martin an adult size or 3/4 size guitar? I have found one for sale near my home at a great price.

000 size, solid mahogany back, laminated mahogany sides, solid spruce top. Rosewd bridge & fretboard with dot position markers. Tortoise binding & pickgd, neck width 1 11/16" at nut. Scale length 25.4" (same as dreadnought & OM guitars). Satin finish. Chrome enclosed gears.

Thought I'd bring resurrect this thread...was just offered a 000-1R as a trade but can't seem to find any values on it. It's gloss all around and doesn't have the paper Martin info tag on the inside of the soundhole (I'm sure there's a proper name for that). It looks super clean...but I'm not sure what it's worth.

hmm this does not sound like the regula rmodel 000-1 they were all satin, you sure its not an 000-28? lol..
