This is my first post here, so... hi everyone

I'm planning on ditching my green board Blues Jr. and trading up to a Silverface Princeton Reverb.

A local store has a version of the amp with the pull-boost on the volume knob. From what I understand, these are less desirable than the pre-1977 PRs, at least as far as prices go.

Are the pull-boost PRs any different than the non-pull-boost PRs? It looks as though there are 3 different circuits that were used in PRs over the years, according to the Fender Amp Field Guide:

http://www.ampwares.com/amp.asp?id=76

I know the early silverfaces had the same circuit as the blackfaces, but were any more significant changes made over the years? I played a blackface Princeton (no reverb) once and it was the sweetest sound ever.

It looks like the rectifier tube was also changed from a GZ34 to a 5U4GB, how did that affect the amp's sound?

I am going to try the pull-boost model tomorrow, and obviously my ears will be the ultimate judge, I'm just curious as to how the design changes affected the amp over the years.

ALSO, I'm curious as to acceptable price ranges for pull-boost princeton reverbs. The store is asking $850, which I'm assuming is not firm. I'm not sure what condition it is in, but I believe it doesn't have the original speaker, which makes the $850 seem pretty high. Anyone buy or sell one of these lately?

thanks in advance

Your link has the price range for the silverface PR already,so why are you asking? They are similar and they do sound similar, but the pull-boost sucks bad.Just don't use it.
The PT's are different, hence the use of the 5U4 rectifier to get the voltages down.
The stock speaker was no great thing and shouldn't affect the value of the silver-face at least. What speaker is it?
According to your price chart, they are asking too much.

scroll down to the bottom of the ampwares page and you will find ebay purchase data. These prices are for the better condition amps. You can also log into ebay, do an advance search and look at completed listings only... that will show the most recent data. You can also purchase the data from ebay.

EBay would be my first place to go too. Welcome to TGP, btw. That's one heck of a monicker you got there. :)
