Hey there guys, I am looking for a good midrange wireless system. Saw the X2 thing, heard a lot about the cable problems they have had since the Line6 take over. Is there something else out there for near the same price?

I've used a Nady system in the 80's, used one much until a few years ago, I had an Audio Technica that didnt work well with the guitar's volume turned down. I got a Sennheiser 172 a couple of years ago, used on ebay, got a great deal, best wireless i've had. Havent tried the X2 or others, the only other I'd consider is a high end Shure, but they're big bucks and the Sennheiser is fine. Brian May and other pros use them.

I recall Mark at Lava Cables offering a heavy duty X2 cable a while back. If that's the only concern, it might be worth looking into.

Not quite the same price point as the X2, but I like the AKG Guitar Bug real well. Got two mounted side-by-side on a shelf in my rack and they work just fine. I should mention that I don't often work very large venues, though.

I have a AKG Guitar Bug too (on loan from a friend). It's tiny and sounds fantastic (pretty decent range, walked out the building with the guitar and it still was going strong).

What's the issue with very large venues though? I play for a small church so it's generally no problem but it'd be nice to know about other issues if I ever have to drag it out to play.

I have to add to this thread that I'm totally exasperated with my X2. It's in the shop for the 3rd time and they are giving up, unable to correct intermittent dropouts because the surface mount configuration of components in the transmitter is just flakey. They're pretty much saying I'm SOL.... I had one warranty repair for bad solder connections, one paid off-warranty repair for same, and now it's back again, not 2 months later. I've had it with the X2. I'm not willing to spend 500-1000 for a high end system so I'll probably go back to the Guitar Bug. If it's good enough for NyteOwl Jack, it'll be good enough for me.... :)
