I'm new to the Gear Page and have been reading many posts about the Marshall 1974X amp blowing power transformers. I do know that the first year of reissue of this model was in 2004, which is when the PT problem began. Does anybody know what year did Marshall start using the updated replacement power transformers (the silver one) in this 1974X amp? Thank you in advance.

As we understand it, they've solved the problem - so a new 1974x that you buy (if you're contemplating this) will be OK.
If your contemplating an old one, I'd just make the seller verify that the trannies are either replace or good, or account for that possibility in the price. Alternately, if they blow in a used amp, you can get good trannies that are better than the Marshalls and more true to the originals.
Don't know when they made the change. Never seem to here a concise answer on that, just that they did at some point. If you WANT the Marshall though, as opposed to a much cheaper, much higher quality, but non-Marshall clone, and you can get a good price on one, I wouldn't worry too much about the trannies. You can get better ones in any case.

I replace my PT under warranty and just had to purchase an OT from Mercury Magnetics. This has been a real pain in the butt but the amp does sound great. The Mercury Magnetics sounds great! Not sure when the updated transformers went into production. In doing my research recently, I've found that there are MANY other 18 watt clones out there that would probably be good. Check out 18watt.com for info on the current 1974x as well as other clones.
