Ok so I'm looking at ordering an Avatar Vintage Cab, looking to load it with a Greenback and a G12H30.
Open back or closed back?
16ohm or 8ohm...mono or stereo...what's the differences, don't really understand it all.
Any thoughts in general? Need some input from people with personal experience with these cabs.

What amp are you planning to run through it? The Greenback will be over powered by the G12H, I just tried this in my Avatar Vintage closed back cab and the G12H was way louder than the GB( Scumback GB clone actually). This is due to the sensitivity of each speaker the G12H is 100 dB the GB is 98 dB, my Scumback is 97 dB. In a nutshell this has to do with the overall loudness of a speaker. A V30 is 100 dB. IMO the G12H works very well with a V30 in open and closed back cabs. The closed back will give you more thump, the open gives less thump but more chime. They are excellent cabs and a great value. Call Dave at Avatar and ask him any questions that you have. He's a great guy and will take the time to explain things to you properly.

i wouldnt use the g12h with the ac30 head. stick with greens or blues ( or mix them!)

I no longer own any closed back cabs, they are all open, so I might be the wrong person to ask. ; )

For an Ac30 I would go open back with 2 greens or two blues

. . . 16ohm or 8ohm...mono or stereo . . .
answering the ohm question sorta means taking a gamble on what you might do in the future. leaving room for expansion i'd say get a 16ohm then if you want to add an additional cabinet later you can make it another 16ohm, which adds to a total of 8ohm at the amp. if you don't plan on adding another cabinet later than an 8ohm would be fine. it also depends what the speaker jacks on the amp are designed to handle. consult the owner's manula for more info.
bottom line is it doesn't matter tonewise, only for convenience and modularity.
fyi, the math for cabs in parralel is as follows:
- two 16ohm cabs = 8ohm at the amp
- two 8ohm cabs = 4ohm at the amp
and don't bother with stereo. get a mono speaker. 99% of rigs are mono. (unless you already have plans of running a stereo rig, that is)

It be interesting to try but I don't know if I'd mix these two for the reason stump gave:
...This is due to the sensitivity of each speaker the G12H is 100 dB the GB is 98 dB...
...the blue is also a very loud speaker (102 db sensitivity?).
However, I have heard V30 and GB mixed in a couple different class A 30 watt EL84 amps and it sounds amazing! So go figure. I've heard of people using a g12h w/ a blue with excellent results, but have not personally heard it.
Other option would be a single 12 Celest Gold. Of course other options exist outside of Avatar or w/ an unloaded cab from them.
