id just picked up a 68 pro reverb, iam into clean headroom, so was wandering if any 6l6,s seem to stay cleaner better than others, either new production or old stock.

NOS JAN Phillips 7581A's if you can find them.
Most clean headroom out of any 6L6 type I have ever used.
GE and RCA made them also but I have never tried them.

the big bottle sylvania 6l6gc that look identical to the sylvania 7581 (twin getter version) have a lot of headroom.

In my opinion the SED Wing C's are the best new tubes for clean headroom.

In my limited testing JJ's won out over all others. the list included

JAN 7581A's
TAD short & long bottles
SED
Sovtex WXT+
Ruby MSTR

I put a 100mV 1kHz signal into my Vibroclone and measured max clean signal across an 8 ohm resistive load with an O'scope

Valve Arts KT66's had the lowest headroom. Only 32 watts

Don't kill the messenger. Different amp may yeild different results. YMMV ;)

The big bottle Sylvania twin getter ones got it in my '70 Pro Reverb. I finally pulled them, they were old, had tons of use, and were starting to feel a little stiff (they still work), and put in JJ 6L6GC. They do it too.
