In the words of Jim Anchower, Ola Amigos, long time since I rapped at ya.

Looking for suggestions on a basic, solid front-end pre-amp circuit design using a 6SC7 tube.

I've had this funky old PA amp lying around for years which was hack-modded for a guitar, but which I need to do a bit more of a 'real' guitar circuit for.

Original design was 1 phono and 1 mic channel on each half of the 6SC7, in parallel directly driving a 6L6. The PO just hacked it by rigging up a jack to the phono input rather than the mic input. I think some of the phono EQ crap is still in there (hmmm, maybe that's why it sounds a bit crappy?) Since I have both halves of the 6SC7 available, I'm figuring on a 2-stage design using both halves of the 6SC7 setup.

Any suggestions for amps/schems to look at?

As an aside, I have to re-measure the voltage but I think it's pretty low - if so am considering trying some old 6L6__ (aka not higher voltage GC etc. variations) that I have lying around...

Sure. Wide panel tweed Champ.

Thanks Adam - that's the idea, except the WP Champ uses the octal dual triode for 2 inputs which I don't need/want. But since you got me poking around at old wide panel circuits, a WP Princeton is just the kind of thing I had in mind. That looks like a great starting point...

However... I've never heard one. Thumbs up? down?

No problem. Wide panel champ uses a 6SJ7 which is a pentode, not a dual triode. Two parallel inputs acting as a single input into the tube.

WP Princeton's are great amps. Not quite as nasty as their later counterparts but great on their own. Should be a lot of fun to play around with.
