Just bought my son a TD SX drum kit and need recommendations for a monitor system.

it has to sound good at low volume levels

Most of the time it will be going through a headphone amp/mixer along with the signal from my axe-fx but I want my son to be able to play at small room volume and have decent sound.

I run through a FBT Verve powered 15 ma monitor

You might try the Yorkville/Traynor 50KW keyboard amp. Fairly inexpensive, good clear sound in a wedge format.

I bought a TD-9SX kit and a Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor was part of the package.

It's working fine for practice and rehearsals and sounds really good within its volume limits. Great at low volumes.
