Wow, that is way too young.

I was just listening to him on my jazz playlist a couple days ago :(

RIP Mr Tisdale.

Avery Johnson is a pretty smart guy, and he said three things that really rang my bell in that clip:

Motivator.

Encourager.

American Hero. Mr. Tisdale was fabulously successful in sports and in music, and by all accounts he was a Prince of a human being before, during, and after. What a man! It's very sad to lose him, but it's great that he was here for a while. I'm going to do two things now:

Go out and do a good deed for a stranger.

Crank up "Power Forward". (It's the only recording of his that I own, because that kind of music is not my thing.)

I had recently read an article in Bass Player talking about his latest album. Such a positive guy. I didn't even know about his cancer.

A real loss.

Thanks for sharing this John.

Yeah very sad. I remember watching him play at OU. Went to several games while he played. I was in grad school just up the road. He really was the first big B-ball star for what has traditionally been a football school. He opened the door for Stacy King, Mookie Blalock, and now Blake Griffin.

Blake asked Waymon if he could wear his number, as it had been retired. Tisdale was flattered and said yes. Had a wonderful career as a NBA pro. What blew me a way was how good he was on bass when he released his first disc out of the league.

Had his leg snap on a fall down the stairs a couple of years ago. They diagnosed bone cancer, and he had his leg amputated. Still continued with the current project. Tough way to go. They say bone cancer is the most painful. He will be missed.
