they have almost all of their tracks recorded with the Axe. I recommend listening to the tune called Walk 2.0 with vocals.
Not for the faint of heart, but seriously a sick tone the kid is getting.
This makes me like re-evaluate my whole amp situation. I need to buy one of these things asap.
I think ill spring for an Ultra one of these days.

oh yeah, i forgot to mention that, sorry, i didnt mean to post something offensive, but it is kinda funny.
The bands name is Periphery and they are at the head of extended range playing, and Bulb, the lead guitarist is considered one of the best for 8 stringers.
You guys should check em out!
And i am curious now for axe players, is it better to use a tube power amp and a guitar cab, or use powered monitor or what? This is the tone i want to get, but i also like a really classic marshall plexi tone. Would it be better to use my 4x12 cab and the power amp from my Two Rock?

You already have the 4x12 and amp so I'd try that first, but a FRFR monitor (people are now raving about the FBT Verve series) will give you the ability to more accurately tweak your tone to get exactly what you want.

i would use a monitor if it worked well, but i just dont feel like i could get that raw power push and punch that a 4x12 can give.
Right now i mainly use the 100w T-R CR Artist with the CAA 4x12 with 2 scums and 2 TR speakers. That gives me a very loud very powerful setup that could tear the clothes off girls in the front row.
I wanna keep the same punch and raw power, but im afraid that 1 monitor couldent deliver, no matter the size. And those verve monitors are pricey.
Can some of you guys show me how you setup your rigs?

Different people certainly have different definitions of "sweet".

Easy- I am a big fan of the AxeFX. I personally did not find the clip "sweet" but it did further the knowlege base of what can be done with the Axe.

I have always loved their clips, very tight and awesome sounding, he posts alot on the axe forum, easily some of the better harder tones from the axe.

Misha (Bulb) is a local buddy of mine and he is AMAZING at recording (if you check out some of those older, pre-axefx clips that's all POD XT/X3! :o) and is a phenomenal player. He's able to dial in amps and digital items like few others, it's really neat seeing all the different tones and effects he is able to pull out of those units. I just returned to the Axe-Fx myself yesterday, loving every minute of it! I am currently running mine direct into some KRK RP8 G2s but I was previously running it through both a solid state (Carvin) and tube (VHT) power amp into a cab and I think each one sounds different, but all were cool and useful in their own way. For low volume playing/recording, it is really hard to beat IMO. :AOK

You can get that from a FRFR system, you just need more speakers. This is a physics issue, not really a limitation of the AxeFX. If you like the feel of air you push out of a 4x12 then a single 12" monitor isn't going to have the same feel for you. It's not really much different then comparing, say, a 1x12 cab with a 4x12 cab. Apples and oranges. Or in this case, apples and more apples. :roll
As for me, I'm quite happy using my QSC HPR112i. If I feel like I need more airflow then I'll just get a 2nd one to put next to it, but I doubt I will need to do that.

Yeah, not really tones I dig either, but for what they were trying to accomplish it sounds like the Axe did its job well.
I did, however, like some of the cleaner tones they used on a couple songs.

They really got the Meshuggah thing going there. And just like Meshuggah, they really need a singer/screamer that can do more than one note :P
Now seriously regarding the tone, it's pretty much sweet. I couldn't tell that it wasn't recorded with a Recto or something if I didn't previously know it was Axe-Fx. Really tight and chunky.

Wow! The music was so awesome I was kind of forced to pay attention to the tones (which were great). There's probably a lesson there somewhere.
