Say you could only have 2 amps, 2 guitars and 2 pedals. Further, say everything had to be stock, 'normal' gear. What would you pick?

A tough call but, I think I would opt for a Tele, a 335, an AC30 and a Super Reverb with a booster pedal and a delay.

PRS Swamp Ash Special
Martin DC-16 RGT

Black Cat 1x12 Combo (My 2x12 is too heavy)

I think I could cover almost all of my bases with this stuff.

tough call.....amp wise I'll choose my Voodoo amps V-plex and one of these:

Baka 50
Bruno UG
Fuchs OD 50
Bad cat Hot cat 30

Since they are all head amps I need a cab:

For the the V-plex an old 60's Marshall cab (with the basket weave grill) loaded with pre-rola G12M and G12H

or a very good 2x12 with same speakers, for both amps.

Guitar:

Gauge custom guitars

Pedals:

MXR 6 band eq
Keeley Compressor

Since I'll be using just 1 guitar (if I can cheat) I'll substitue the guitar for an attenuator.

I'd go with a Strat and a Les Paul, my Laney LC-50II and Deluxe Reverb, with wah and delay pedals.

Amps:
1)Two Rock Custom 50 watt head...with Two Rock 1265 112 cab (and my Avatar 212 Fane cab...because I can have '2' of each component, yes?)
2)Tone King Comet 40A 112 combo

Guitars:
1)Baker RF signature...versatile/toneful/valuable(and getting moreso everyday)
2)Suhr Classic 'Old Yeller' strat style...best single coil guitar I've ever had

Effects:
1)Klon Centaur
2)BOSS ME50 multifx...

I would have 2 Les Pauls: a 54 P-90 Goldtop and a 58.

The two amps would be a Jamison combo and the K30.

I would want a univibe and a boost.

Amps:

Soldano SLO 100 plus a Soldano 4 x 12 loaded with the Eminence Legend 30's.

Fender "reissue" 57 Tweed Twin

Guitars:

Heritage Classic 535 with Seth Lovers
Epiphone Honeyburst Les Paul Standard (YES, it's stock and it sounds Great!)
Fender 50th Anniversary Strat

Pedals:

None!

Stuff I own or anything I want? :D

Own now:

Guitars:

PRS McCarty (will be replaced with my Thorn when it's finished!). Dead stock except for added Tonepros and straplocks.

Fender CS '54 Strat - Ash body in 'burst, birdeye maple neck

Amps:

Mesa Boogie Nomad 55 w/ 212 Rectifier cab

Fuchs Modded Fender DRRI

Anything I want? I'd take my upcoming Thorn and Strat for guitars, the strat kills and I'm sure that my Thorn will be "pretty good"! For amps I would like to run maybe a Komet and one of Andy's production Fuchs. Then again the Aikens are very sweet and I'd like to check out Doug's Rocca's....

Crap, too much great gear out there!

katuna

I think I'd do the Rory Gallagher on the amps. Tweed twin and AC30.

Guitars - Strat or Tele and a Les Paul Jr.

That's terrible of you to put the guys on this site through such a horrific emotional and potentially psychologically damaging train of thought. But since it may never have to happen, I guess it's OK. ;)

Hmmm, tough. At the moment:

Guitars: PRS CE-22 & Fender Strat

Amps: BF/SF Pro Reverb & and a Marshall-ish head/cab

Peds: Overdrive and echo (is the TTE a pedal?)

Whew. I think I've changed my position on this thread. It's actually been quite theraputic to indulge in this tragic fantasy of sorts. Perhaps it's possible to be happy with just two of each??

Absolutely essential to me:

1. '98 Fender MIJ 60's Strat (w/large frets & Van Zandt pups).
2. '01 LP Standard, (stock but needs new pups)
3. '72 Fender Vibrolux Reverb (to blackface specs - except for the voltage dropping resistor that was changed so that both are 10K now). Very sweet and my all time fave amp I've ever played.
4. RI '59 Bassman.
5. My Furman pedal board with: Fender tuner, Barber Direct Drive SS, Boss chorus, Boss delay.

Does "stock, normal gear" really include stuff from small builders? That really opens things up. I'd be a lot more challenged if I had to walk into a "typical" music store anywhere in the country and pick two each of amps, guitars and pedals from their stock. Think Guitar Center, for example...

So, I'll split my answer: unusual stuff versus "commodity" gear.

A Koll Custom DL paired with a Fender Vibro-King would be my first choice of non-commodity gear.

If I had to buy something off-the-rack from GC or MF, I'd spend some quality time hand-picking a nice lively semi-hollow guitar (maybe a Gibson or something from the Ibanez Artcore series), then pair that with a simple tweed-ish amp like a `59 Bassman RI or a `57 Twin RI.

Keep your pedals, or let me find a Leslie 145 or 147 with the combo preamp.

I would two TopHat Super deluxe 2x12 combos run stereo & two Tom Anderson Guitars. One Hollow-T tele loaded with humbuckers & one classic.

If I couldn't have pedals with my amps I would probably swap one of the TopHats for some dual channel amp to get my lead tone. Maybe a Bogner Shiva.

Opps, forgot the pedals. My chrome Crybaby 535Q (have to give up the Italian Vox I've been carrying about since high school, but the 535 is just more useful).

Second pedal would be the the OD du jour, for those times when I'm plugging into someone elses amp (don't need it with the Fuchs, don't want it with the DR). Curently a Banzai Fireball 2 (means giving up the Klon, but again the Banzai is more versatile).

Boy, the amps and guitars were easy, the pedals proliferate.

BTW does a volume control count as a pedal?
How about a rack mount? Then I'd have to give up the OD for a TC2290.

Funny you should mention it. I've got one going that is just about like that. Weber speaker, long reverb tank, quirky preamp and PI circuits. ;)

Al, that's pretty much all I DO have! For the longest time I owned a boat load of guitars, too many amps, etc. Most of which sat around in cases and not seeing much day light ... or stage light for that matter.

Kind of took stock of what tools were needed to get the job done and decided that two quality and versatile guitars and two quality tube amps were needed. That's pretty much it. Solid hammers (amps) and saws (guitars) that cut straight.

2. Don't have yet.

Guitars:

1. 80's Jap reissue, Callaham Bridge and block, Kinman AVN 62's. This guitar would sound great through a 1 watt head with a broken speaker. I actually don't like to use it whan I evaluate amps because I would like everything.

2. Don't have yet.

if cabinets aren't a factor, i'd take the amp in head form, if they are, then i'd get combos. so, i'd take:

bogner shiva
vox ac30

gibson sg
g&l asat

line 6 dl-4
peterson strobostomp

think that'd do me just fine. both amps have reverb, the vox has tremolo, the guitars will cover all the ground i care to cover, and i'd have practially three delays and a looper with the dl-4. i also value staying in tune more than having a drive.

funny, right now i can only afford to keep 2 guitars and 2 amps(help paying for my wife's school bills) and i have a tele an epiphone 335 copy an ac-30 and a spitfire(off by 1) I do not feel that i'm lacking alot in the gear dept right now, but i would like a nice koa top Thorn, maybe someday my wife will buy me one. ;)

Say you could only have 2 amps, 2 guitars and 2 pedals. Further, say everything had to be stock, 'normal' gear. What would you pick?

A tough call but, I think I would opt for a Tele, a 335, an AC30 and a Super Reverb with a booster pedal and a delay.

concrt
02-03-2006, 06:56 AM
For me it would be fairly easy:

Guitars:
1) Les Paul (real, not Epiphone, pick your favorite flavor)
2) Fender Strat (again...pick your poison)

Amps:
1) Mesa Mark IV
2) Fender Twin

I don't use pedals. That's what I spend money on my amps for.

Rick.

mprvise
02-03-2006, 06:58 AM
I'd keep my Strat and 335 for guitars. The Strat will soon be replaced by some sort of Grosh/Anderson/Melancon.

For amps there is no question:
Tony Bruno Cow Tipper 22
Two Rock Custom Reverb

Those are my two main gig amps currently. If I had to sell all my other amps I could be very happy with those two for a long time to come.

The first amp would be my Gries 35. The second, maybe a tweed style deluxe.

The first guitar would be the Tele I sold 25 years ago for $90 because it needed a fret job. Sometimes I just hate myself. Yes, it was a black guard.

The second guitar would be the parts Tele sitting next to me. Of course, these G&L's are quite nice too.

I think Super is right. Six would be a much easier number. I still suffer over that Tele though...

A Jamison 2x12 combo slaved out and ran through a fulltone tape delay into a Standel power amp powering two Jamison 2x12 extension cabinets on either side of the first amp? Amp scenario 1: I guess a hot marshall, and a blackface fender ... there've been so many good ones I'd be hard-pressed to pick one.

Amp scenario 2: If I wanted to cheat a little, I'd choose two mega-switchers, like a Triamp Mark II, and a Fuchs TDS. Then I've got sorta Vox, killer Fender, killer Dumble, sorta plexi, sorta Recto all in 2 amps.

Pedals:

well in amp scenario 1, a Burn Unit (For Dumble tones) and a Red Snapper.

In amp scenario 2: just a clean boost, like a SHO.

But I'd still like to have a proper acoustic guitar, a tele, another electric with humbuckers and a smaller tube amp that's loud enough to rehears with but smaller than a 4X10 combo.

Everything has to be stock...that blows my whole rig!

Guitars:
PRS Custom 22 in Violin burst (mediocre pickups though)
Martin D-28 Custom Shop (for the seasoned wood)

Right now I'm on a vintage kick, so I'll go:

Amps:
Marshall JTM45 and Bogner 2x12 closed back cab (can I get a G12H30 and V30 in there?)
Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue 2x12 combo

And for two pedals:

Pedals:
Fulltone OCD
Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET

Now if only I could have my dream Warmoth build and modded pedal collection in there :D

for me that would be:

- Bruno Cowtipper 22W 1x12" combo

- Fender '69 CS strat
- R8 w/ WCR Darkbursts (oops not stock!)

- an OD pedal, a Xotic BB Preamp for instance
- and I'd be happy!
;)

At the mo' I've got the R8, and the BB Preamp - the rest I can only dream of!

I'd want Ronnie Woods' favorite Ampeg VT-40.
I'd want Tom Petty's best AC30.
I'd take Scott Henderson's favorite Strat.
And I think I'd also keep Danny Kirwin's favorite '57 Les Paul Std.

There, that was really very simple. :)

Guitars: Thorn AD #55 (ash/maple/ebony-singles), Thorn AD #56 (limba/I-rosewood/B-rosewood-buckers).

Guitars (i need one HB and one SC):
- My 61RI SG with the RS kit and WCRs. It is exactly everything I've ever wanted in a humbucker guitar.
- A 50s style strat, but something much nicer than my 84 Tokai ST-80. With the factory DiMarzio vintage pickups and solid electronics, it's a great guitar for the cash and smokes guitars costing $1k more, but I know there are better strats out there.

Amps (i need one tight and versatile and one swampy with built in reverb and trem):
- My Maz Jr. NR. All purpose for guitar, bass, home, rehersal, and live.
- Juke 1210 I love my Ampeg Gemini II, but I've always wanted to play a juke for a swampy amp.

Pedals :
When I just want to take the bare minimum to get by and have all sorts of gain styles at my feat, I go a Skreddy Screw Driver into a Maxon 808. I couldn't imagine anything ever beating that.

the two amps I would take off the sinking ship to keep forever:

Bad Cat Panther
Blankenship Fat Boy with sour cream

as for guitars, I would have to take my
original 62 strat
PRS McCarty Korina with P90's

but my bad cat lil15 is a great, great amp, as is my victoriette. what a tough call.

Suhr Classic (the one I have)
Maton 325C Acoustic (the one I have)

Vintage Sound Super Reverb
Suhr Badger Combo (contrary to seemingly popular belief, I think the combo looks great!)

Blackstar HT-Drive
Echo Park

Hmm ... how time changes things:

PRS Mira
Maton 325C acoustic

H&K Statesman Quad EL84 combo
Vintage Sound Super Reverb (VS410)

Zendrive
Deep Blue Delay

(assuming that an RC-2 isn't actually counted as a pedal ... inspite of its size, shape and location ... otherwise the Zendrive would go in favour of an RC-2)

Note to self ... revisit this in 12 months ... see how things are looking

Guitars: ES-335 and ES-330

Amps: Some sort of Fender-y amp for cleans (tweed super) and an Orange Retro 50 for dirt

Pedals: Zvex Wah Probe, Zvex Box of Rock (and a tuner of course!)

This would be my dream harem, I don't even want more than this!

Well if we are talking about my current collection I would be hard pressed. I could narrow it down to I guitar and 3 amps. Nothing special except to me.
1) Ibanez RGT3120
2) Peavey Ultra Plus head/cab
3) Rivera Chubster
4) Crate Stealth GT50 combo.

I imagine that list didnt make any eyes bat! lol! They ROCK my world though! Bob

Why two. Make this a desert island affair. A modified strat with a single coil humbucker and a Deluxe Reverb.
