Just saw him at the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society in Half Moon Bay. Incredible! He always goes for blood. He's fearsome Talked to him at intermission, what a nice guy. Had the Suhr strat, one of those new cabinets with the port in the back, Suhr head, assorted pedals. I envy those in L.A. who get to see him all the time.

Good to see you and Bryant there Red. Couple of things:
1. Scott got great tone and dynamics out of that 4x12 rig at a small club volume. I sat 8ft. in front of that amp and it was very listenable.
2. Kirk Covington! That guy is probably the most fun drummer to watch I've ever seen! He plays like a martial artist - I like that.
3. No glamor in what those guys are doing. Slugging it out just like any of us. Good news is that Scott liked the Kuumbwa on Thursday so maybe they'll get up here a little more often.
Scotty Lerner, I said Hi to Scott Kinsey for you. He said to say Hi.

So Kirk Covington is back with him ? There are vocal tunes again then ?They had a laptop computer glitch at one point so the crowd talked them into playing a blues and Kirk sang on that. Really great! Other than that, it was Kinsey's gig and they were all instrumentals in the Zawinul vein.

Saw him in Costa Rica with Kirk Covington. I went into the club to buy tickets just as soundcheck was underway. At the actual show, I basically sat at his feet.
That was probably the single show that has affected my playing the most. I basically taught me how to play blues without playing licks...

Wait, so this was a Kinsey band show? How did you all find out about this show to begin with? I am really bummed I missed it AGAIN!! There's nothing on Henderson's site about any gigs at all! So they're playing in Santa Cuz tonight, is that right? Any info on this show?

Lance, they played Kuumbwa last Thursday. Mike would know more about that one. I had some friends that are really into fusion tell me about it, or I wouldn't have known. We could have used more people there, because there were a lot of open seats. These were world class musicians playing a show that wasn't even sold out! These were some of the best musicians on the scene right now, but I think things are starting to change at least in Northern California. There were even a lot of women at the show, which probably suprised Scott, who always jokes that there are none. And you could tell they were into it.

I think Kuumbwa added the show at the last minute since they were going to be in Half Moon Bay. I don't remember it being on the Kuumbwa calendar until very recently.
Like I said, Scott liked the Kuumbwa so maybe we can get them up here again with more advance advertising and make it worth their while.

Well, thanks for the info guys. Senior Red Shoes, I recall it was you who I found out about the last time SHB played at Bach's. So, if you happen to hear of any more Scott Henderson related shows in the Bay Area, please pm me. I wouldn't mind talking to Scott for a minute or so, to see what it would take to get him in the city somewhere. Like maybe Cafe D'unnord, or Slim's, or just somewhere up here! Yes, it is a crying shame that guys that talented, and dedicated can't sell a couple of hundered tickets ANYF*&CKING WHERE! That just blows me away. People knocking each other down to go see crap like Brittany. OK, I think I need a timeout or something. I am waaay to p.d off for not even being noon Monday. Grumbling under breath...

Thursday would have been totally cool up at Kuumbwa...

Scott talked of checking out the two Yoshi's as places to play. And Adam's right. It was a Kinsey gig. The bassist was very good also. (Rufus Philpot).

Red Suede,
I suspected that you would make the show. I tried, but I had some shit going on that caused me to leave late, about 3:15, and then I hit Canada Road and 92 became a parking lot. I knew from experience there was no way I'd get to the Douglas Beach House until 4:15 or 4:30, and I figured it would be packed, so I decided to bail on it and took a U-turn.

That's too bad. It was a parking lot, but you would've been fine. I got there at 4;15, but they started a bit late, and the sound was dialed in better for the second set. They ended off about 7:45. It was mostly the Zawinul vibe almost all the way through except when Kirk sang, which was cool. I hate to gush, but Scott is my favorite right now, because he gets a real rock guitar tone, can play funky when called for, and has a command of jazz harmony that goes beyond just knowing licks and gets more into real improvisation. I go home inspired every time I hear him. I went to my gig after just wanting to play my guitar even more.

I love Scott's playing too, and I love the bag that the Kinsey group is in... really sad I didn't just hang in there and accept being late and way in the back...

I sat in the "parking lot" for over 45 minutes myself. I would have turned around were it not for the fact that an old friend I hadn't seen in years bought me a ticket and had my seat reserved right in front of Scott. I got there at 5:15.
