Thanks, Bones (I've enjoyed a lot of your stuff, too).

Can't for the life of me remember what kind of fly that is -- it's a little brown dustspeck, about 2-3mm long. It's on a small sunflower.

There's a remarkable world out there, if we just take a look. Great thread, Bobbo.

We're about a half hour from Sequoia Nat'l Park. Here's some from a daytrip a couple of months ago. this was my first excursion out with my new camera, so there's a bit of a learning curve going on - some are better than others, bit it was a nice day with my youngest daughter and my wife:

A partially-albino cardinal (http://web.syr.edu/~bpburtt/Birds/Aug17-03.htm), or so I discovered. They number roughly 17 in 30,000. Unfortunately he was only around a couple of weeks--not very robust birds.

...some pretty robust photogs around here tho. You guys shoot some good stuff.

Yeah, my first live view. I've seen a couple of carcasses in back-country, but never caught one romping around.
I saw two cougars a couple years ago, also my first run-in with them....unfortunately they were both spotted early in the morning on a backpacking trip, and I was solo at the time. I was a little on-edge the rest of the day
The bears are not "real" uncommon, but still something to be aware of. Most folks driving with their head up in lock don't spot them, but I'm always checking out my surroundings - you'd be amazed at what's there if you pay attention....

Pretty rare to get that close to a Bobcat, isn't it? I thought they were pretty skittish.

I came face to face with one last year when I hit an errant golf shot and the Bobcat jumped out of a ravine and turned and stopped. We were about 12-15 feet apart for a minute or two and what a beautiful animal. I grabbed a couple of clubs, just in case but we checked each other out and he lazily walked into the brush.

This is my front garden. You should see the looks on some peoples faces when they see Kano looking straight at them over a five foot wall.

I've been planning a trip to Italy recently, and it's obviously got some amazing scenery. However, this thread reminded me that we here in the good ol' USA have some stunning scenery here. Great photos folks.

I have seen flying squirrels, normal squirrels, opossum, raccoons, owls, and armadillos, right on my front porch or in the huge ficus tree in front of it. So imagine my surprise when I go outside late last week, hear something scuttle, and see this:

Where it came from, I have no idea. I've lived here for 8 years, and this is the first time I've seen one anywhere close to my house. :dunno

Wow. Well I was going to post some photos I actually took of animals/birds in my backyard, but my efforts are totally amateurish next to these so I won't bother. Great photos guys.

Eau contraire! Post away...far less frightening than posting clips. :)

My wife found a large green caterpillar in her garden and we put in a jar with holes just for fun.
A week later it turned into a chrysalis.
I took out the chrysalis and set in on the lid of the jar.
This butterfly (Black Swallowtail) popped out a week later.

I opened the bedroom window and we watched it fly out.

Pretty cool.

It pretty rare to see 3 calves though...
