You know, Today sucked. No other way to put it. Work sucked, didn't sleep well the night before because of the heat, and well...just uggg.
So a little youtube self medication today, this one always does it for me.
I love Drift Away.
This is a cool BBC version.
It ain't Reggie Young on guitar, but still nicely done.
And Doby just nailed this one.

I've been mesmerized by that song since the first time I heard it on the radio. Perfect voice for that rhodes and the guitar fills. It wasn't 'till recently that I realized how much it influenced my playing on a subconscious level.
I read that Gray said in an interview the song's hook of "Gimme the beat boys and free my soul" has been mistaken as "Gimme the Beach Boys," "Gimme the wheat boys", "Gimme the peat moss," and "Gimme the meatballs."

I think I used to play this one as a standard tune, on my trio gigs, and went into the chorus of 'God gave Rock n' Roll To You'(the Rod Argent tune), after 18 bars of the vamp...in the same groove and key.

If you have to be a one-hit wonder, that's the one hit to have. Beautiful tune, and I agree, it somehow makes things... better... :)
