These are the splits like the old Domino pups that used to be on PRS egs, except humbucker sized.
Thinking of putting them in a Hamer Artist either in just the neck ( how do they balance with a regular humbucker?) or replacing both pups.
Do they have a p90 sound to them, or more of a Strat single coil?
Thanks

I LOVED mine. Had them in a Guild Bluesbird, which is chambered, and it really took the tone of the guitar to another level. Some have said they sound "3D", and they have a bit more gain than classic P90s, but they are meaty and CLEAR. I think you'd be happy.

Here's a couple of clips of my old Tom Anderson alder body Strat with two P92's in it.

I like them a lot but I can't really compare them to a regular P90 as I don't have a guitar with P90's and the P90 guitar I did compare them to was an old Gibson Les Paul Jr. That guitar sounds way different than an alder body strat style and it's more than just the pickups.

Output wise they would mix well with many humbuckers and Lindy will change the wind for you if your not satisfied.

Sounds great. Seems to capture the whole Fralin "Clarity, with Balls" thing. I have one guitar (Lp Custom r7) that has a set of Fralin 7.5 Unbucker/9k Humbucker and the neck under gain is still a tad too fat at times. I've always thought about a p-92.

I have them on a Soloway Swan. Very nice full tone with clear highs. And enough output to push an amp

Do you get significant volume drop out when bending the g string pass it's polepiece say, towards the d string? Thanks!

Another P-92 fan here! I've installed them in two Tele's a Les Paul Florentine and an ES-336. They have that P-90 snap and clarity without any noise. They are my current favorite pickup. These are 8,000 turns in the neck and 9,000 turns at the bridge.

We've used lots of them and I had them in my own guitar for about a year. Very fine pickups. One thing you need to be aware of is that they come in a range of winds and the number of turns will have a fairly dramatic effect on the results. I believe the range is 7700 to 10k. Lindy likes the with fewer turns. In his own guitar, he has 7700 in the neck and I believe 8200 in the bridge. We used them quite a bit hotter, 8k in the neck and either 9k or 10k in the bridge. His forumla gets more jangle. Ours gets more cream.

Love 'em. I prefer single coils but can't stand the hum. I had this set (9K neck 10K bridge) in a tele for a long time, but tried them in this Epi Sheraton (with CTS pots and upgraded hardware), and now I prefer this guitar to all my others.

I run a diy set of 7.5k/16k. Duncan Jazz/JB. The Jazz was to muddy and the JB was too up tight. They both improved immensely. Nice clear and round wound strings.
The 16k actually works similar to my 11k P90.
Volume roll-off, there's the spank, roll-off further and there's the chime, as I use treble bleed.

I'd say 92's are something a HB'er kind of guy would get along with, b/c they are bolder like a 90.

How did you make your DIY set?

Both of those clips sound great. What amp, and did you use any pedals? I have a Thornton Classic coming with a P-92 in the neck, so I was very interested in your clips. Thanks.

I had a P92 in my PRS Custom 24, 8500 winds, neck position.

Hated them ... too much bass and highs, too peaky in the high highs, not enough focus.

That being said, Fralin is a great company and will take a swap for something else if you don't like them.

I answered my own question by checking Cochese's website and following the link to the Guytron website. No pedals apparently. Those Guytron GT-100FV amps sound great, too. I'm surprised we don't hear more about them on here. They're expensive @ $3295, though that isn't really bad if you compare them to the other high end amps that they compete with. I see that Graydon Stuckey bought the company earlier this year and perhaps they'll be more visible. Cochese did all of the clips on the Guytron site, and they all sound great. Definitely a top notch player!

John,

Thanks for the kind words. We are striving to please everyone as much as possible with the reborn Guytron. BTW, the MSRP for the GT100 is not the typical selling price. You'll find them at most dealers for just under $3000. Maken' Music has one in stock, available for immediate delivery.

Oh yeah, Chris does a magnificent job with the clips. The amp really sounds that good. He hardly does any postprocessing at all.

Thanks for chipping in, Graydon. It was not my intention to hijack this thread and turn it to amps, but I love the clips that Chris posted. He was demonstrating the P-92 pickups, but the clips demonstrate how good those pickups sound into a great amp, and played by someone with monster chops.
