Its the Guitar Festival here where I live again and I just got a call from one of Larry's guys that he's looking for a bass player and a guitar player to play with him tonight...should I go? Hmmm.... No!
I seen him play a few times through out the years and he's a really cool guitarist but its just not my bag and for me to comp through his songs which I don't know would be a disaster. I haven't read charts in 15 years which would probably be the case and then do trade offs? I would be killed! LOL!
dude, I wouldnt pass up that chance!

He is enough of a pro to keep it simple for you. You better do it. Years from know youll still be kicking yourself if you dont.

Neither would I. One in a life opportunity to play with a jazz/blues legend.

You may get you're head handed to you on a platter, but I'm sure Larry would be very graceful about it and you'll always have the coolest story in the room... ;>)

dude, I wouldnt pass up that chance!
I've jammed with Dimeola, Rik Emmet, Jeff Healey, etc. in the past at these festivals but it wasN,t the same. I knew some of the songs. It just wouldn't be the right time to learn stuff in front of a couple thousand people on the fly. It would be too much pressure.:drool

Awesome opportunity but I feel you for sure.
I don't know if I could pass it up though!

It would be cool to meet him though and hangout after the show. Ahhh, I still got time to think about it....

If you folded on the gig would it affect your reputation? Gotta think about that.
I've jammed with Dimeola, Rik Emmet, Jeff Healey, etc.
And let's not forget AD...:)
You should go with our mutual friend Jacques B. on bass.....
good luck

I wouldn't worry about sucking. We've all had nights we've sucked, but how many of us can say we sucked on stage with Larry Carlton!

I am 100% sure they would send charts or a set list with a CD well in advance.
You can do this, don't pass up this opportunity.

That would of been cool but it didn't happen that way. That would of given me a little more confidence and a chance not to drown. It was a last minute kind of thing.

Which guy impressed you most?
Out of those 3 guys I would have to say Rik Emmet. The guy is a monster player and sings like a god! He was great to talk to also. Very nice guy.
Al was killer as usual but had an air of arrogance about him but thats Al.
Jeff was really cool also and I had the chance to meet him like this just before he died. The best ears in the business. It was uncanny how he was able to hear the slightest EQ changes in the monitors. Crazy!
You gotta do it...It's a great challenge...I feel the same as you about his music, but what the hell.....It may be a lot less Muzak than you think.......
again War Adrimal...don't think about it...just do it...are you a fine guitarist?? If they called you, I bet you are!!!

Whats up? If your good enough that they would have called you to jam with him, you should be good enough to do it and at least get by. This just doesn't add up to me.

Ohh man, I think you gotta do it man. Even if you get ur ass handed to you (which I dont think you will, sounds like ur a capable guitarists) It would be a great experiance. No one's gonna look down on you for being out played by LC, I don't think theres many people here who wouldn't!

Dude. Jam with LC. You will SOOOO regret not doing so. I will not live long enough to get good enough to jam with most anyone on this page, but to have gotten the call, you must have the goods. Do it. A pro or LC himself may hear the things what got you a-worryin', but the average audience member will NOT. Trust me, you will regret not doing it FAR more than your perceived inadequecies while you are PLAYING WITH FREAKIN' LARRY CARLTON!!!!
GO! AND STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS!!!
Peace.

Well guys, I understand what you're saying. I just got back from work at 6:00 and the message was on my phone and the show started at 7:30. It really didn't give me no time to prepare and get my shit together. It would of been damn near impossible to get it together. It would of been cool to have that experience to play with and meet the man but it didn't work out.
Peace out...

Ah - that would have been cool, but easier for all of us to say you should have done it, right?!
Would it have helped to say your were going to jam with Larry's drummer, and that LC might just play a little something on top? :D

Do it. Don't be silly. [end of thread]
One of my favorite Methany quotes was to the effect of "always be the worst player in the group, that way you're learning..." a bit of truth to that.
