View Full Version : What does stacking opamps do exactly?

I've seen these around...and hear about pedals in the emporium that have anywhere between two to four opamps stacked. What does this do exactly? How does it differ from using just one opamp? Does this work only on specific effects or can be done to any effect? What would it do to an OD pedal??

anything from no discernable difference to some subtle tonal variety. There is supposedly some increased high-voltage performance

In my fiddling, I've found stacking op amps way more effective when I stack two different types that have noticeable differences in sound. Doing this, though, sometimes requires putting isolation resistors on the outputs, which is a huge pain.
