Hi,

Has anyone experiamented with quieting an HK Rotoshpere?
Mods, etc?

Indyguitarist perhaps?

Also I know it is "better" in a loop, has anyone used a loop like a VHT Valveulater or the Fuchs, etc?

Thanks,
Paul

You can experiment with lower gain preamp tubes and see if that works. I had one for a while, but in the end I traded it in for a Dynacord CLS-222, which is a bit more authentic IMO and also has a lower noise floor.

I used to like the sound of a clean boost in front of mine. Lowering the drive can help, but if the drive is set low enough to reduce the his, the tone is gone as well.
In a live situation I find that the noise is fine as long as the rest of the band is playing.

I generally use it in an effects loop now though. To tell you the truth, it sounds incredibly better that way, not just noise, but the tone is much better as well.

I've got gain at 1 o'clock and output at 10/11 o'clock and the hiss is (to my ears) completely unnoticeable. Good luck! -E

The trick is running the output at a lower level, that is where the noise is coming from.

Run a clean boost in front of the Roto and have the drive set at 3 o'clock.

I had a company build a true bypass box with a built in clean boost on the front end and it really helps out with reducing the noise. Before this I ran a TB loop with a ZOOM PD-01 in it to do the same function.
