I'm interested in running my 77 VC thru a 2x12 cabinet that's wired for 4 ohms. Will I need to disconnect the VC's internal speaker?

You don't have to... you could do a pass through and include it... but I'm not sure why you would want to... have yet to meet an 8 that could keep up with twelves.

Unique among Fender silverfaces, the Champs don't want to see more or less than 4 ohms. Disable the onboard speaker if you use the 2x12. My SF Champ sounds great with 1x15" in a big open back box.

How can you run it through a 2x12 without disconnecting the combo speaker? Does your VC have a Ex Speaker Jack?

Just tried it through the 2x12. And no it doesn't have an external jack. I mistook the footpedal jack for an external speaker jack (mine never had a footpedal). The sound was just "ok" through the 2x12. It's an old cabinet with worn out Eminence speakers and they've never sounded good. I'm sure through the right speakers it would sound great. Thanks for all the advice.

I had my Champ wired with a 1/4" jack that makes is easy to disconnect the on board speaker and run it through a 2x12 that's wired for 4 ohms.

This sounds interesting. Mine probably needs a cap job soon so I may get a 1/4" jack installed at the time.

I just had my VC converted to a head/ cab and it sounds great. I went with a Weber 10a125/10f125 combo in a closed back 2x10 and it transformed that amp into a beast!

Since the speaker out is on a rca type jack, you could always get a cable with rca on one end and 1/4" on the other.
