I would personally go with the firebox. I used one for awhile before I bought the FP10. Preamps are pretty decent, and the drivers are pretty stable. From what I've heard from some of those M-Audio interfaces is that they have some compatibility issues. Of course, I'ven ever tried them.

The Firebox has superior drivers but most people who use it(myself included), recommend using a mic pre to get the optimal sound from it. I myself use a Rane MS1b. I have been told there are significant stability issues with the newer M-Audio drivers. Check out Gearslutz or TapeOp for the downlow...

I can't speak for the 410 but I've never had a problem with the Firebox.

I've always found they sounded clean and decent. I wouldn't really say warm, but they're still good. I don't really see the need in buying a better pre amp at this point.

I've used one for years with my Mac and Garageband. Easy to use and sounds good.

And when I needed to backup my Line 6 M13, I used the midi on the Firebox. It worked well.

I wouldn't say a big upgrade, but an upgrade for sure. You're going from USB to firewire, which is much faster and the pre amps and convertors are definitely better. Plus you get MIDI I/O and digital in.

I would stay away. For that price you can get this: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-FP10-10x10-FireWire-Interface?sku=242036 which is basically the big brother of the firebox. Like it was stated earlier, the newer drivers for the m audio stuff are sketchy.

Excellent choice! I love mine and it works great in a home studio. I think you'll be happy you have more inputs. That way you can do drums if you would like. The drivers are rock solid as well.

I've found Presonus to have the best preamps in that price range. Their clocking seems better too, which makes a big difference in quality of sound post conversion.

Like someone else said, I'd spend just a little more coin and get the FP10. They are all over eBay for $339 new. If you search the completed auctions, you'll find used ones in excellent condition selling for under $300 routinely.
