Hi,
I just bought a '77 Telecaster Deluxe with original pickups and it appears that on the neck pickup no sound is coming from the D string. It has adjustable pole pieces and I raised it a little and had no noticeable change. Any one have a take on the problem and how / where to fix it?
Thanks

Oh it probably not worth fixing ... you should just let me take it off your hands :-)

Demagnetized pole? What happens when you swap poles with a working string?

Congrats on the Tele!

Thanks!
Can I just unscrew them and swap them out?
If that is the case whats the fix?

O K, I replaced the string and although I did get more output than before it is still 2/3 the output of the rest even after adjusting the pole piece up and or down. So what I tried was to switch pole pieces with the corresponding D on the bridge pickup, what do you know the pole piece is the culprit.
The question is now how do I fix, re or de magnetize the pole piece?
Thanks

ok.. here's PROBABLY the deal

for whatever the reason - on MOST of these guitars, there is polarity issues w/ the poles and ya gotta swap em around. Check and make sure that D string is lower output on ALL pickups configurations. I say because usually it's fine on the neck or bridge but not in the middle, etc.... meaning the pickups D poles are fine w/ each other on ONE pickup but not along w/ the other pickup, etc...

you can reverse the polarity of EACH (string's poles) by removing and reversing the opposite pole from the underside of the pickup - understand ?

the '73 I recently sold in emporium was ALL GOOFED UP when I got it. After a few hours of messing around , I got it all sorted out. I think the girls in Fullerton just popped them in any which way

hopefully, you understand what I'm saying - pretty certain that's your issue. - a pair of poles out of polarity w/ make that string WAY quieter.

I discovered that when I was recording simple arpeggios on a track and certain notes were just GONE
