Maintaining Speed

Last night I was working on a particular lick and was able to reach a certain speed and now this morning it seems the lick is more difficult. I will add that this lick is a part of a song our band is playing. Not trying to be a speed demon. Just trying to play the lick proper. What gives?

Might be a warm-up issue. You might get back to last night's speed after playing solidly for an hour or so.

Or it might be that the finger gods have decided to toy with you today.

Sometimes I find a day away from the lick and you'll be able to play it just as you did that first time.
