I just got a load of popular mechanics do it yourself encyclopedia's from my Grandma, they must be from the late 60's anyways the have this interesting project its called "better sound from any speaker". Anyways the mention to add an "ordinary faucet washer over each mounting bolt 3/8 to 1/4 inch thick and this is going to increase low end frequency without adding a port". Keeps the speaker from being tight to the baffle I guess. Has anybody tried something like this? I'm going to give it a shot and see if I can tell a difference. I thought it's kinda neat, but this article maybe focusing on a Hi-fi system.

Sounds like a cheap way of getting the Fender tone-ring type of setup. I'm interested in what you find out.

Try it and post the results. I've been considering putting a port in my oversized 2x12 to give more low end.

If you put thick washers between the speaker and the baffle, it in effect makes a port around the whole speaker. Raises a big question about phase cancellation! But with the right size cabinet, closed back and correct thickness washers it could work just fine.
^^^ :agree I could see where it would have an effect on a closed back cab.

I'm going to give it a shot this weekend, I've seen those plastic washers at home depot and I need to pick some up different thickness should be interesting to see what happens
