Just got this. Very cool, great guitar sounds. Although one song seems a shameless Justin Timberlake ripoff.
I read a recent interview where he claimed he used some kind of cheap Line 6 interface for all the guitar sounds. They are so good, I find it hard to believe.
Anyone else been listening to this?

I heard him at the HOB last year. He used a Line 6 amp and his tone was poor and he screamed all nite. I was very disappointed.. I was a big fan back in the day. That said, I think it is possible to get good tones direct with line 6 gear. Lincoln Brewster uses a Pod and he gets great tones out of it live and recorded.

I saw him live on an Arena tour earlier this year (they played earlier hits too) and he was using a Line 6 amp. The other two guitarists were not using Line 6 amps, IIRC. I also saw hime about 10 years ago(?) and he was using one of the early Line 6 modeling amps. In neither case was I particularly thrilled with his guitar sound, but it wasn't bad.

i haven't seen him since the 70's (gasp) he sounded great then. And the tones on the album are good.
Thanks, guys.

Saw him with Ringo's All Star Band about 7 years ago and he was using a Mesa of some sort. He still sounded like shit.

Hmm, I had the opposite reaction to the album. It's a bit loosey-goosey (but not in a good way as with the Rundgren stuff I like) and I definitely don't dig the tones.

I've listen to Arena quite a bit, but not for the guitar tones. It just sounds like old modeling technology. The new Line 6 modeler, the M13 has frighteningly good distortion tones, as of Rev 2. Something happened in a lab at Line 6 in 2009. Maybe all it took was a real tone chef engineer to get involved in the voicing process.
