View Full Version : Ceriatone Overtone as a pedal platform
I was just wondering if the clean channel of the Overtone Special 100 (either HRM or standard) would work well as a platform for pedals? One of my bands is a jazz/blues band for which I think the OTS would be perfect using both channels, but one of the others is a covers function band where I need the versatility of a wide range of tones using pedals (mostly Barber LTD, DD and Burn Unit, plus Keeley TS9 and DS1 for the overdrive tones). Do you think that the OTS would be suited to this?

Yes!
I've tried it with a Visualsound Route 66, with new Barber Tonepump and with KORG AX1500G processor and it sounds good. BUT !!!
I personally won’t do that at the live gig. OTS sounds great without any pedals and it can be very versatile amp after proper modification.

Aha - I was wondering what mods you'd had done to yours? (the Guitarist review of one of your cabs mentioned it). I know Nik has made a lot of changes to the original designs after a number of mods were posted here so I wasn't sure if yours was modded along similar lines?

The Ceriatone bluesmaster HRM Overtone special has an extremely beautiful sounding clean channel that also takes pedals well. You could use it for a pedal platform for sure and also use the OD channel for alternate od sounds.

Overtone is a good pedal platform... not as dynamic but easier to play and control.
My friend for example, don't even use the OD ch at all... only pedals and clean ch.
I modded his OD ch twice... and it sounds great but he still likes his pedals more.

My mods are much more radical than mods here or Nik’s.
I have FOUR channels, switchable Bluesmaster mod and special filter on OD channel.
I’ve changed useless PAB to special adjustable boost which does not ruin the tone and so on.
Mods are here http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?action=profile;u=281;sa=showPosts;start= 105

In my opinion: yes, the OTS takes pedal very nicely. However, if you're asking that question, you may have missed the bigger picture. The idea, as I understand it, is to let the amp shape and conform you, instead of the other way around (if that makes sense).

I love all of your answers. I'm looking for a new amp and the 100 watt Overtone Bluesmaster seems to be the new baby. I rely on boutique OD pedals at the moment but I long for a dynamic creamy amplifier OD. It's just a totally different thing.
Still, I don't want to give up on my OD pedals. They are great.
I would love more clean clips of the Overtones.
