I think they're beautiful not odd...this Steel/Coppertop has the most beautiful bell like clean tones because it's really a giant bell.
The wood gives it a familiar warmth but the metal top gives the high end a zing (sorry for the lack of creativity describing the tone)
quality that really cuts. I much prefer the wood/steel formula over the all metal bodies, which are still stellar in their own right.

I saw a pic of a rose embossed hollow Tele last year. It gave me the only Tele lust I have ever had. It was at one of the big shows, and did not sell. It would have if I was there.

Way cool guitars! Much warmer sounding than you would expect.

I have a list of future purchases, and a Trussart guitar is on that list (not in the near future though, gotta save for quite awhile.)

I find the whole Trussart thing a bit of an enigma myself. I can see that they are unique and cool looking. But you don't get endless threads about how great they sound, for instance. They will be seen in the hands of top professional players on stage, but you don't tend to read about them being used on recordings so much.

Can't deny the cool, though.

.

So isn't seeing them actually in use by professionals a greater endorsement than threads about how great they sound? I have read many rants about this or that guitar some of which are seldom if ever seen being used by pros so which would you prefer?

To me the biggest issue is that artists use guitars for specific reasons - e.g., Ovations can be good for controlling feedback on a big stage, but that doesn't mean the artist would choose it for playing on their own. So I am curious if Trussarts makes for fine stage guitars - but are they a solid go-to guitar, with Tele versatility (for that design) and a tone you can work with - or does the metal body leave things a bit flat or non-Tele?

I really like the looks of his tele. Mojocaster had one for a good while, and still has one like shown in the photo. Maybe he will chime in on playability and tone. He did sell it afterall for a reason. I would be curious as to why guys who have had them have sold them.

I've had mine for 6 years and it's been to every gig. I never leave home without it.

I had one: a Steelcaster Deluxe or whatever white with red rose pickguard. The nomenclature defies me.

It was a fine guitar: not my favorite but that's because I may like spinach and this was broccoli, if you catch my drift. Definitely a solid gig worthy axe instrument and it looked killer.

Great stuff, great guy. Met him at his first NAMM several years back. He had a lefty LP I could have bought for $1800. Still kicking myself.

I'm sure they make great stage guitars. No argument there. But I'm still waiting to read an interview that mentions a Trussart as the instrument used to produce stellar tones on a track. I'm sure they are capable of such, but I've never read anything that reliably confirms this.

Cool looking, though. :dude

Forget written interviews...Look up Trussart in Youtube and watch a few in action and let your ears be the judge. There are some demo vids that will settle any doubts about their tonal qualities.

From the first moment I saw a Trussart I wanted one.

Eventually I found several and had a chance to play them, and they ended up just not doing it for me. I don't much care for the tone or the way they feel. Just not my thing.

Even with that, I kinda still want one for the way they look. Just stunning.

I'll chime in...

Just saw Arc Angels and both Doyle and Charlie play them. And those dudes know tone!

James Hetfield has about 4 now, one is a steeltop Explorer!

Zakk Wylde has a rusty Bullseye Steeldeville!

The Trussart myspace page has a cool photo section of celebrity owned Trussarts.

They are shipped now with Arcane pickups which are designed to the.(Rob who works for Trussart builds the pickups). To me they sound even better than the Holmes.

I love mine & play them out live all the time!

Mojo still has one, he sold one to upgrade to one built to his specs.

I've played plenty of 'em. they play AND sound phenomenal. I often contemplate selling my Gibsons & buying a few of James's creations.

Stone Gossard played one on Life Wasted from the Avocado album. It's a righteous tone, and very disctinctive. not sure what effects he used.
I didn't know Jamyz had any. He has fine taste in fiddles though.

Some of my absolute favorite guitars in my collection. Trussarts have something going on that other guitars don't. Absolutely amazing. The look, the feel, the tone - just fabulous.I can't speak highly enough about them. I've got a Steel Deville, Steelcaster, Steelcaster Deluxe, and Steel Top.

They sound really good... and you can drag it behind the truck in the dirt or use it for a paddle (these things happen)... and still play it that night.

The rusty steelcaster is simply a thing of beauty. Ringing perfection.
