There are some staples of the 90s radio stations that fall in that category for me. For example, I immediately change the station when Sublime is on.

Try turning off the radio. I haven't listened to the radio by choice in many years. I actually wouldn't mind hearing a few on your list at all.

Haha, yeah, me too... i'm almost at the point i'd listen to anything that hasn't been raped by auto tune. I mean.. if All Along The Watchtower came on the radio i would cranck it!

Anyway.. one song i wouldn't mind hearing is "Summer Of 69".. I never got that song..

Fortunately there are radio stations that play new music. There is a lot of stuff on KROQ I don't love, but there's a lot I do, and you will never hear one of those songs on KROQ...

I'd love it if there were a local station that played more of the hard rock and metal that didn't play the classic crap in their rotation. knac is NO MORE other than webcast stuff.

I don't think I've actually heard either of these songs.

That is such a great song. I could listen to her version all day.

All Along the Watchtower could stand to get played more. Never got the hatred of Brown Eyed Girl, like JJF is okay, could live without them but they don't bother me. The rest of the songs on the list I never particularly liked anyway.

Under the Bridge - CHili Peppers
Anything where Kanye West is trying to sing
Viva La Vida - Coldplay - I like it, it's just DONE
I kind of have to agree on Sublime - overplayed on Alt radio,
Anything by 311
Anything where the singer is whining about "how I never meant to hurt you." This includes whiny emo/punk/pop bands like Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Dashboard, Hoobastank etc...
Any whining from the 80's - This includes Morrissey, The Cure and Depeche Mode
Any whiny wannabe brit singers from any era
Anything By Celine Dion, Cher or Brittany Spears older than 2 years.

Wow, I must be in a weird mood!

(No) Pride and (an utter lack of) Joy.

The classic rock channel in MPLS didn't play SRV until after he died.

But since then they have been playing this bar band turd every 2 hours.

i too, gave up on the radio about 12 years ago. the day i hit all five presets and got the rolling stones on each one was the day i caved. and it's no knock on the stones, just a lack of variety. i'll listen to WPKN which is listener supported, or a jazz station out of NYC occasionally.

I find it odd that stations who claim to be cutting edge alt radio play and extraordinary amount of old music. Not classic rock , but older alt type music. Under the Bridge was what 10 years ago?

Radio, definitely, but retire them from audience requests too, please!
I can't think of one gig in years that someone hasn't asked for one of those....

...or Nick67's list: same dang thing....
Margaritaville
Mustang Sally
Sweet Home Alabama
Giving It Up For Your Love(Delbert McClinton)

My Girl
Sweet Caroline

"I Will Survive" was by Gloria Gaynor. I'm embarrassed that I know that. I assume I have to turn in my "man card" somewhere......

As far as the radio goes, the repitition is maddening. There's a local station around here that plays a decent of mix of country & rock. You can go from Brad Paisley to Ted Nugent to Merle Haggard. That's the only station I listen to anymore.

Someone mentioned songs that should be retired as far as playing them....well there are many. But most of em are tunes that get an entire bar singing along (Perfect Country Song, Friends In Low Places) or that put asses on the dance floor (Standin on Shaky Ground, Mustang Sally). So as much as I'd like to retire them, I can't.

NYC. Hmm,

I'm south of the Mason-Dixon, so, these are REQUIRED for radio stations to play.

But even years ago, I rarely heard Aqualung. It was a "rarity" at the time which made it a feat to catch it on (like Cross-Eyed Mary).

I don't care to hear any of these on the radio anymore, except I will always listen to Watchtower, and Jumping Jack Flash (though admittedly, the last especially is overplayed).

But I still like the others.

Except B-E-G. Auto-change kicks in when that song comes on. In fact, in general, if a song comes on the radio that we're playing in a band at the time, or I've played it somewhat recently, I'll switch on those too (though I may still like the songs).

The ones you neglected to mention (and maybe you're lucky up in NYC and they don't play it up there).

ANYTHING BY BAD COMPANY.

One of my local stations must have some guarantee worked out with their listeners - like "no repeat Wednesday" or "two for Tuesday", they must have "will play Bad Company, every hour, on the hour, guaranteed.

The only thing worse than over-played are songs that didn't even deserve to be played in the first place and are over-played. Bad Company.

Oh we get Bad Company up here, believe me. If I hear Rock n Roll Fantasy one more time I'm going to put my foot thru my dashboard but being in NYC we get much more amounts of Springsteen and Billy Joel as opposed to 38 Special and Molly Hatchet

I'm not nuts about "I Will Survive" but on the other hand, it's usually played to represent disco, and of all the disco songs they could pick to play over and over to represent disco, that one is one of the few that sucks less. Beats the hell out of "Fly Robin Fly" or Boogie Oogie Oogie I Love You" or whatever it was called.

If you didn't live through it, be thankful!

If that one Led Zep song, All of My Love or something like that, would get removed I'd be a happy man. I absolutely hate, hate, hate that song.

I mostly listen to college or indie "home grown" radio if I turn on the tuner (which is rare).

I agree with most of the original list...except Stairway. I know, I know, but that solo just gets me everytime!
