I recently acquired a VHT Pittbull 45 and have a few questions for the users of this amp. The OD channel is quite harsh and gets especially "fizzy" in the upper register. I've been playing at bedroom levels and haven't really cranked it yet. Could this be the reason? It seems most people love this channel so I'm confused. Next question: What speaker do you use? Mine still has the 100w stock speaker, but I'm interested in trying something else.

the edge button is where you may find your cure.

I've got a pittbull 45 1x12 combo. I replaced the stock speaker with a Scumback. It was a big improvement but then again IMO the scums make most amps sound better. I do find the amp to be kind of harsh at low volumes. You can smooth out some of the harshness with some of the voicing buttons as suggested. I love the features, size and it sounds pretty monsterous for a 1x12 combo when you crank it but the gain structure has no forgiveness. You must be a really clean player with this kind of amp.

I've gone public many times over with my love for this amp...
I use the stock speaker.
You can't really use your 'default' settings on any of the channels - if the gain channel is too bright for you, back it off and experiment with the Edge knob. Also - you gotta get those power tubes working a little bit at least to get a full sound, out of this or any amp really.

+1 to the comments above and i will add the "Mid" center freq is quite a bit higher than most amps i have used and has a definite effect on treble response.
