It is new. PRS's take on the Strat, with a 25.5" scale. I wish the pickup routes were for standard single coils, rather than their proprietary 513 single coils. I'd like to try one to see how it compares, preferably in Seafoam Green :). Hopefully the price is not unreasonable (they probably should have used a pickguard like the Mira to keep costs down).

Looks, plays, sounds, IS killer!

If I hadn't just pulled the trigger on the PRS Sweet 16 amp, this, in seafoam, was to be the next purchase.

Mike,
I've got a Sweet 16 on order also, let me know when yours comes in and I'll do the same for you.

I sold off all my PRS guitars when I got bitten hard by the Tele/Strat bug, wish they would've had this guitar then.
I'd like to take one for a spin as I'm currently Strat-less - Damn You GAS!

That is a smokin' looking guitar. They will sell a few of those I think.

So they were saying that there was "no hum." But they're not humbuckers, right? The PRS site says singlecoils.

Well, it was hard to watch the vid without really, really wanting to play one.
I wonder what the price will be.

Oh, the one-off in the vid had a maple fingerboard, which is not offered on the normal 305.

A Swamp Ash Special with maple neck has long been on my wish list. But then PRS keeps throwing these rivals, like 513, the 305...

They look very intriguing to me, but there are a lot of players who will not consider it.

A Swamp Ash Special with maple neck has long been on my wish list. But then PRS keeps throwing these rivals, like 513, the 305...It hums, but not in position 2 or 4. The center singlecoil is out of phase with the other two.

As far as maple fret boards go, there's a couple of private stocks and a couple of prototypes with maple fret boards.

I have one of the prototypes. The 513 singlecoils are quite a bit hotter than your average Strat singlecoil, so it has a big, ballsy fat strat tone.

Also as long as we're talking about SAS's and 513's, pictured below is the 305 Prototype next to a limited run 513 with a swamp ash body and a maple neck and a 1-Off SAS. All three are fairly impressive guitars.

That's a hell of a lineup, Dancing Frog.

Any favorite emerge?

Any favorite emerge? The 305. It's a stone cold Strat killer and has been that from day one. The 513 Swamp Ash is a little too new for me to really know well yet. It seems to be more of a history of SAS tones from old to new. The 1-Off is a really aggressive over the top SAS, because of the nonstandard Modern Eagle PUp's and the Fralin. I've thought about toning it down it bit to be more like a regular SAS, but it's really too good for rock to make any changes.

I'd be very game to try ... I've owned a Fender Strat and have a Suhr Classic, but I've got no prejudices against PRS having a crack at the same kind of thing. Lately, I've played a couple of outstanding PRS ... a Mira that I bought, and a McCarty with 5708 pickups (forget the model name). Both at the vintage end in tone ... I'm glad PRS started doing more models and pickups down that end of the scale.

I am definitely intrigued by this. At least PRS has its own original body design, and is not just another copy of the famous Fender Stratocaster design.

I played a sunburst 305 a few weeks ago, sounds amazing! Plays great and has an amazing build quality just like all American PRS guitars. I think this is going to be a great selling guitar for them.

Thread resurrection! I just played a 305 with a rosewood board and it was marvelous. Before I saw it, I didn't know these existed. Good stuff, maybe, just maybe, a better Strat.

With the set neck should theoretically have more "bloom " and sustain than most Bolt Ons and should be easier to find a "good " one.

Do they in fact have more sustaining quality general on the 305 ?

I strongly feel that my 305 has more sustain than any vintage strat I have owned, but not too much to bring it out of the traditional strat camp. It simply feels very familiar besides its set neck, which plays BTW a lot more comfortable at the neck heel and is a much more stable construction. The custom pickups are great and there would be no reason for me to tinker around replacing pickups. The only thing that I wish it had would be a reverse wound middle pickup to allow me a save haven in high gain applications. These single coils are not overly noisy, but they are still "single coils" and they will let you know. All in all the 305 is a great guitar. Check the weight before you buy. Mine is 7.5 pounds, but I have seen some that weight over 8 pounds. I would steer clearly away from these.

The one I played had a light and very comfy body. The middle pup was reverse wound, apparently. It was a late 2010 build. Very nice sustain, yes.

I've had my 305 for about 9 months now, and I play it nearly everyday. It doesn't have quite the same "spank" as my '56 custom shop reissue, it's a bit warmer. I find myself playing the 305 a lot more because it just plays like butter and the trem is so smooth. For ultra clean tones I probably prefer the strat, but add a little dirt and the 305 just sounds so much bigger than the strat. Even with high gain the 305 hangs together but still sounds like a single coil guitar. The 305 is the guitar that brought me back into the PRS camp. I agreed though, get one that's lighter, mine is 7.5 pounds. Also mine has a wide fat neck (which I love) I think the new ones have the smaller regular neck which some people may prefer. I'd like to see PRS do a "Mary Kaye" 305--white blond, ash body, gold hardware, maple fretboard, etc. Now THAT would be cool!
