As well as some others: (All of whom visited my Summer NAMM booth, several payed some as well):

Guthrie Trapp: (Known affectionally on the local scene as one of the "guitar assassins") Amazing player that is both musical and with chops that just blow your mind...

http://www.guthrietrapp.com/

http://video.yahoo.com/watch/1815555/5989796

J.D. Simo: (Hybrid flat picker that has amzing versatiity, speed, feel and chops)

http://www.myspace.com/jdsimomusic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTtYkhj9Ffk

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._D._Simo

and two of our own:

Josh Smith: (Amazing player and human being - coming out with new solo album in next few months.)

http://joshsmithguitar.com/

http://www.myspace.com/joshsmithguitar

Greg V: (Only guitarsist to perform with rythm section for Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn as set guitarist)

http://gregv.us/

http://www.myspace.com/guitaristgregv

Lou Toomey: (Guitarist for Brooks and Dunn)

What's cool about all these cats is that they are just damn fine human beings. Humble, down to earth. Just great folks.

Check 'em out live if you ever get the chance you won't regret or forget the experience...

I saw Guthrie a couple of years ago in Jerry Douglas' band. No one should be that accomplished on both acoustic and electric guitar.

The skill level in that Jerry Douglas band was/is just ridiculous.

+1 for Greg V and Josh Smith-they are also TGP brothers. Greg V's Tailgate Troubador is a beautiful sounding CD with such amazing composition and gorgeous guitar tone. I wish Greg would do another solo album soon. Josh is a great guy, great player, fellow gear hound and always willing to share gear secrets.

Whoa-ah. Just watching the Trapp video! Killer bass player there too.

Is that the studio cat that was recently touring with Vince Gill (the bass player)?

Not feeling Trapp's Tele tone but his playing is outrageous.

caught JD last year amazing amazing player. Made me get GAS for a BF Deluxe Reverb.

Another great player not a session player but he has a band called Just Plain Trouble they play at Layla's Bluegrass Inn a lot.

The singer/lead guitarist Tom Buller is awesome. Great singer and great picker!

Hey LavaMan... Thanks for your kind words... I don't really claim to be a "Nashville Session man" .. I do live here and do some sessions ... There's plenty of these guys mentioned here that are just that! badass session cats. I'm just a working guitar man ... And happy with it.. Peace, Lou Toomey

Don't forget Tom Bukovac (another TGP member). One of my favorite all time players. His playing credits are impressive.

Hey Mr. Lava! Thanks for the shout-out but I'm certainly no session player, at least compared to the A-list session players listed. My career has been based more in the live trenches.... Also, I'm glad I introduced you and Tony to Lou Toomey and Guthrie Trapp at NAMM, and glad to see my term of affection for these guys "Guitar-Assassin" sticking :) JD Simo is another G-A!! Love these cats as people and players.

I can't believe it no one mentioned Tom Bukovac until post #21. I'm sure Greg will agree, Tom's just the best. Period.

Hi TravisE,
Buk is bad cat for sure but what's great about these guys is them having their own individual voice and style of approach.

I should have titled this thread simply "Great Nashville Players" - as this is what I really meant.

Hat's off to all these guys for making a good go of it as live or session players - it's a tough world out there and all these folks contribute immeasurably to the thing we call "music"....

And, they are just great cats to hange with as well..I am thankful I have met so many them thus far...

Jesus. That was insane. Guthrie Trapp's country playing always blows me away.

I used to watch this one of his all the time, primarily whenever i didn't feel like practicing.

Amazing how all of these guys seem to go through the Don Kelly Band.
I remember seeing Johnny Hiland with Don Kelly at Roberts Western World in2002.

Not a heavy duty 'chicken picker', but Richard Bennett has seen a lot of work around Nashville over the years. Bill Hullett is yet another great player, Mike McAdam, Johnny Hiland.

I've been to Todd's shop a number of times but did not know this about him.

Any time guitar players who are graduating from Berklee and MI or just think they the shiznit, they just need to hop a plane to Nashvegas and absorb some humility.
SO many amazing players there and most of the people I've met are really cool people to hang with. It's a very humbling place to be a musician or songwriter.
It's kinda like being the hotshot High School quarterback walking on to a major college football tryout and realizing that the least talented guy on the team is better than the best guys you'd ever played before. It's pretty crazy.

How does Pete Huttlinger figure into this? Does he do this kind of thing or something different?
